Baseball 2012 (2 Viewers)

OK all, who's going to win the WS? I got the Giants in 7. ^&grin -- Al

Missed last night's game (had a heck of a migraine) but what a pleasant surprise. That's actually the second bad game in a row he's pitched; the hapless Yankees just couldn't take advantage last week.

SF took it to Verlander and the Tigers last night. Sandoval now enters the hall of October heroes for one game performances and I'm pleased to see Zito continue to do so well. Verlander is, perhaps, the best pitcher in baseball, until he gets to the WS. In 3 WS starts, spread over the 2006 and 2012 WS, he is 0-3 with 15 IP, 18 hits allowed, and 12 ER's scored (plus 3 unearned). Not his best stage, it would seem. I will be interested to see if Verlander can snap back in his second start, or if his WS problems will continue. He kind of reminds me of two pitchers from the 90's who will go to the HoF at some point, Maddux and Glavine, who dominated during the regular season, but were mediocre in post-season play. Maddux was 11-14 in post-season (2-3 in 3 WS) and Glavine was 14-16 post-season (4-3 in 5 WS). Not terrible, just mediocre. We shall see. -- Al

Tonight's game will be obviously key -- call me a genius :rolleyes2: If the Tigers don't win tonight, I don't think the Series is coming back to San Francisco. Tonight it's MadBum v Fister, who has pitched great in the post-season (1.35 ERA). MadBum got lit up against the Cards but is very talented. It's pretty much even between those two.

Where are the other fans on this Board, now that their teams are no longer in it? {eek3}

I'm pulling for the Giants, because my buddy Doug Luna is a big fan and I talked to him on his way to the game last night. The headline from last nights game could read "Verlander mauled by a Panda!"

Nice job Al, I didn't know Verlander was that bad in the WS, he got shelled tonight, but in all fairness, if that ball doesn't hit the bag on the grounder with two outs, he gets out of that inning, but instead, he's down 4-0.

Gascan Valverde got hammered again; he should fake and injury so they can get him off the roster, he can't pitch again in a meaningful spot the rest of the way.

As Brad said, tonight is huge.........a Giants win guarantees the series comes back to SF..........

So true about Valverde. Don't see how the Tigers can possibly use him again. Any self-confidence he may have had left is long gone now. On the other side, Lincecum, who was pretty awful most of the season as a regular starter, has found re-birth working out of the pen. His post-season stats from the pen are 10.2 innings pitched, 3 hits allowed, 1 BB, 14 k's, and the most impressive, 1 run allowed. Not bad for a 28 year old who needs a haircut. -- Al

I see where Mo Rivera has come to his senses and is considering retirement. At 43 (next month), he has nothing to prove and most likely would only hurt his legacy. A year off at his age, coming off that kind of injury, why come back? Take the money and enjoy your family, Mo. -- Al

My favorite kind of game in Game 2, a brilliant pitching duel. A 2-0 gem by the SF Giants where the winning run scores on a double-play. Puts SF up 2-0 in games but the Tigers can at least go home to try to get back in this series. The SF pitching has been outstanding to this point and it doesn't get much easier for Detroit having to face Vogelsong in Game 3. SF looks good. -- Al

I can't really see the Giants losing this series and I doubt the series will be returning to SF. If the Giants can keep it close and get into the Tigers bullpen, they should be able to win. Sanchez will have to pitch the game of his life to win as Vogelsong is just unconscious right now.

Frankly, I don't really know how the Tigers got this far: lousy bullpen and shoddy defense. Oakland As should have beaten them but for Verlander.

SF now up 3-0 in games. Making the Tiger hitters look real bad. Another fantastic pitching effort by both sides, but Detroit on the wrong end, again. It's all on Scherzer's back now, but without being able to hit or score, it won't matter how well Scherzer does. A sweep looks very probable at this point. It just doesn't line up well for Detroit now. Even if they get past Cain, Verlander will have to face Zito, and on it goes. Detroit is dead. -- Al

Yup, it would be nothing short of a miracle for Tigers to make it back to SF. Of 23 teams that were down 3-0, only three made it to a Game 5. Those are very heavy odds.

I had a gut feeling that this was gonna happen. The Tigers have clearly gone cold. To top things off the Giants are playing extremely well. Tip of the hat to San Fran.

I know it doesn't look good but if they can win tomorrow they would probably win Monday with Verlander and then, who knows? Probably a long shot, but better than nothing.

Yankees should have beaten them, but that is why they play the games. We made their starting staff look like hall of famers and played listless and uninspired baseball. If you count the Orioles series, none of the American League play inspired any confidence that any of us were beating a National League team this year. ( also note the NL drubbing of the AL in the All Star game..) Michael

SF pitching has really done a number in post season, once again proving that pitching wins championships. So far Detroit is batting .165, with 15 total hits in the 3 games. They have only 1 Hr and 2 doubles and as a result have a grand total of 3 runs scored, all in the first game, and 2 of those after the issue was decided. Been total domination by the SF staff to this point. -- Al

Giants have now won as many titles in three years as they did in the last 70. An incredible run in the last few weeks.

Thought it might be the Tigers night but Giants pitching is just amazing. Tigers didn't get a hit after the sixth.

Glad that Angel Pagan got a ring and really like how their first baseman, Brandon Belt, played.

Onto the Hot Stove League!
