Right you are, Brad. Giants were dominating. The SF pitching was incredible in the post-season run to the WS crown. Tigers were completely over matched and I don't think Verlander would have made a difference even had there been a game 5. Congratulations to SF and their fabled lineage of HoFer's like McGraw, Mathewson, Ott, Mays, Marichal and the current team. They done good. Now, as Brad says, on to the Hot Stove league and spring training 2013!^&grin -- Al

Congrats to the Giants, they played like champions and deserved the title, I've read in places they are a mediocre team; far from it. They won 94 games, one less than the Yankees, seven in a row towards the end of the season.

Their pitching was money from game 3 of the NLDS on and as Al said, when it comes to the playoffs, pitching is the key.

Two out of the last three years for the Giants, good for them.

Yankees should have beaten them Michael

I really don't get this statement. If they should have then you would think they would have at least won 1 game. Oh well, I'm not gonna get into it with Yankee fan. Its just a head ache waiting to happen. Once again congrats to the Giants for playing some great baseball they were truly the better team. Or maybe I should just deny the series loss and say the Tigers should have won ^&grin

Had it not been for the layoff they may have. No one saw this coming, not even the most ardent Giant fan I'm sure. Being too good hurt them in 06 and this year.

The Giants certainly deserve this World Series win. They dominated the Tigers, but also showed great heart by coming back against both the Reds and the Cards. Just shows that superior starting pitching will keep you alive in the postseason...

The WS sweep was a TV ratings disaster. Apparently it garnered the lowest ratings ever for a televised WS. All I can say is that I did my part and watched all 4 games.^&grin -- Al

I wonder how much of this will be blamed on the lack of a "big market" team? Kind of like last year, when the series included the Cards and Rangers and pundits said that no one cared?

Baseball always blames small market teams for low ratings. That's #1 on their list. Number 2 is blame a sweep, not giving chance for excitement/interest to build. Baseball can be a little predictable along these lines.:rolleyes2:{sm3} -- Al

A little more glory for the 2012 Orioles as 3 of their players have been awarded Golden Gloves. Catcher Matt Weiters won his 2nd GG, CF Adam Jones won his 2nd, and SS JJ Hardy won his first. Last time the O's had 3 GG winners was 1998. Congratulations to them. -- Al

I will profess ignorance about Jones ither than I know he's good but wonder how he could beat out Mike Trout. Perhaps you could do a comparison of their relevant stats.

Hi Brad. I can't really answer that in terms of defensive stats other than it being a matter of games played at a particular position. I know that Jones played all 162 games (161 at CF for which he won the award) with a .982 fielding percentage. He had 439 put outs and only 8 errors, along with 7 assists. Trout only played 110 games at CF (out of 139 total games). While Trout's overall Fielding percentage was a tad higher than Jones, .988 to .982, Trout only had 3 assists and 340 put outs. Offensively, Jones has been steadily improving in all catagories and this year posted career bests in every catagory except RBI's, where he fell one short of his previous best. I assume Jones won on sheer number totals in games and innings played at CF. -- Al

I would be inclined to say that since Jones won, the concensus was in his favor. There is always someone who doesn't agree with a given award and who can always say so and so's numbers were better and he therefore deserved the award. Until they take the human factor out of voting, there will always be questions. Perception always plays a part, as does a teams overall success, but that is just the way the current system works. -- Al

Awards now coming out and I want to congratulate the Washington National's Bryce Harper on winning the NL Rookie of the Year award. It was a pleasure to watch this young man play with such enthusiasm and be so serious and humble.{bravo}} -- Al

Hello, someone forget the unanimous selection of the American League, Mike Trout, the best CF in Major League Baseball? {eek3}

Sorry Brad. Didn't mean to slight Trout. I didn't find out he had won until the 11pm news when I had already gone to bed. I was going to congratulate him this am.:smile2: -- Al

Another award for the Nationals as Davey Johnson won Manager of the Year. Congrats Davey! The O's manager, Buck Showalter finished 2nd to The A's Bob Melvin in a pretty close vote. Being an O's fan, I think Buck should have won but 2nd place ain't bad. -- Al

Looks like the Marlins and Blue Jays are working on a blockbuster trade, the Marlins are basically dumping all of their high priced talent and gutting their team.

This is embarassing to the city of Miami, the organization and their 14 fans.................

Glad for Davey. After the As finished first, pretty hard not to vote for Melvin. However, a tie would have been fair too.

Great day for the Mets! R.A. Dickey wins the Cy Young, only third Met pitcher to do it. He and Kershaw were the best this year and statistically very close, discounting number of victories.
