Only up side for me with KC winning the series is that former O's pitcher Jeremy Guthrie gets a championship ring. He didn't have a good regular season and was left off the post-season roster, but he was an innings eater and helped them over the last few seasons get in position for this WS win. He has gone 41-34 for KC since coming to them 3.5 seasons ago. Good for you, Jeremy. -- Al

A "die-hard" Mets fan from the beginning I was disappointed that they lost but they should be competitive for the next few years.
In my opinion the Mets were out-played, out-managed, out-hit, out-fielded and out-hustled........My wife did think that they are better looking than KC, however!

Fortunately the one game I attended, Friday night, was a win and Citi-Field was filled with positive energy.
Congratulation to KC fans....

The decision to pitch Reed is just inexplicable. And now they bring in Colon? The last two games have not been Terry's finest.

I disagree about the Mets being the better team. The Royals showed they were better. Mets have work to do: need to get strong up the middle and improve the bullpen.

Well, that's it. A good season. They probably exceeded expectations.

that's putting things in perspective...a very good season is the thought to walk away with...

Winning the world series is a lot like winning the Stanley Cup. It's a real grind given how long the season and playoffs drag out. You have to have talent, luck, and coaching. Even then nothing is certain with injuries and players running hot and cold. A lot of good teams go down. The Royals seemed to be able to up their game when it was crunch time.

Right now, after a night, I went from being to upset to just being ticked off.

Yes, a good season but not the time to reflect on it.

I was really pulling for the Mets, super-fans like Brad and nysoldiers really deserve a championship. The Mets have a core made up of great starting pitchers and with some decent relief pitching they could easily win it all next year.

Evidently, Bud Black is to be the next manager for the Nats, according to local reports. -- Al
So much for rumors. The Nats have hired Dusty Baker as the new manager. I don't have any info on contract terms but it is, of course, 'multi-year', as they always say. Apparantly the Nats tried to go cheap on their negotiations with Black, in both money and the length of contract, which insulted Black, leaving the Nats scrambling and having to change focus to Baker. Great, the Lerner's have already fostered controversy with a disaster in trying to hire a manager. Just what the Nats need, something else to worry about. They tried to get Black with the same low pay and short contract crap they pulled on Riggleman, Johnson, and Williams. I am beginning to wonder about the Lerner's and their operating techniques. The Lerner's are proving to be dysfuntional as owners when it comes to team management and how they treat the people they have hired to run the team. Just peachy-keen all around. -- Al

Dusty Baker? Now you are really making your way towards Bochy.

:)

It's a strange world where Bud Black can consider an offer to manage a MLB team for one season at $1.6 million to be an insult. I see the stands half empty at the Nats games on many nights. TV ratings for baseball are awful. You have to wonder where all the money comes from to pay these guys those outrageous salaries?

That is a decent money offer but the one-year contract is short in terms of contract length, something the Lerner's have become known for in baseball circles. The Nats were 11th in MLB in total attendance this year, averaging over 32,000 per game, at 80% capacity at home. Not bad and that helps somewhat explain, along with the tv money, where all the money comes from, and there is also all the team marketing sales. You are right about the salaries. It is sad when $1.6 million is considered an insult. I wish someone had insulted me that way.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Where the money comes from is of little interest to me as long as they can pay them.

I think the money in TV deals (locally and nationally) is in the billions, spread over a number of years.

I see Greinke opted out of the Dodger contract. Anyone's team got a couple billion laying around?:rolleyes2:^&grin -- Al

It's not like he's not worth it, in baseball terms. I'm assuming he will sign with the Dodgers or some other NL team as he likes to hit.
