Mets are reportedly sending Brandon Nimmo and a couple of low level prospects to the Reds for Jay Bruce. What a bunch of idiots. Nimmo could have been something special. When he was briefly the leadoff hitter, the lineup had some pop and pizzaz. Instead of trading Nimmo, they should have gotten rid of Granderson and some of the other dead wood on this team.

Trading Nimmo is a bit of a shock. I thought the Mets were really high on him. However, there is no doubt that Bruce will bring pop to the Mets lineup as 25 Hr's and 80 RBI's are impressive numbers. Maybe it will work out for the Mets. -- Al

Brad, ESPN reporting that Nimmo is NOT part of the trade. Dilsen Herrera is the main Mets part. -- Al

What in the world do the Cubs need Joe Smith for? Where are they going to use him? The rich get richer, unless they just plan to move him on in another trade. -- Al

Texas got Beltran and Lucroy. Going to be an interesting stretch run. -- Al

Beltran to Rangers. The rebuild is on.

Beltran to the Rangers for a right handed starting pitching prospect taken by the Rangers with the 4th pick in last years draft, and they just moved Ivan Nova to the Pirates.

According to the guys on the MLB network the Yankees now have the most top 100 prospects of any team, and have arguably the best farm system in baseball.

Not a bad instant rebuild, especially as, in the off season, those prospects can be traded for major league players if the Yankees want to improve markedly for next season.

Now that Beltran's gone, they will run A-Rod out their every day as the DH, to see if he can re-discover his swing and be of any use to us next year, and really see if that scrub right fielder batting .188 we picked up from the Twins in the offseason can do anything playing every day. I'm going to the subway series game tonight, and will be thrilled win or loose, because the Yankees have a bright future again.

Brad,

Your Mets got Jay Bruce and Jonathan Niese back. Looks like you are going for it.

Niese is terrible (4.91 ERA) but so was the Bastard-o. What a waste. In the Bruce deal, they didn't give up Nemmo but gave up Dilson Herrera, the supposedly 2B of the future. So what was the effing point of letting Murphy go. Maybe they will now try to sign Walker whom they basically got for free since that loser Niese is back. Oh, joy.

I see the O's got Steve Pearce back from the Rays. He has good numbers in part-time action with the Rays and was a fan favorite when he was with the O's the first time. -- Al

The Giants did ok in getting Smith but I hate to give up a prospect like Bickford. Trading Duffy for Moore is probably good for both teams except for the fact that Duffy was part of the Giants foundation and a club house leader.

On the other side of the Bay I really feel sorry for A's fans. They lost their best outfielder/player (Reddick) and best pitcher (Hill) all because they are due to become free agents next year with big raises. The economics of baseball can be harsh.

Looks like the Rangers are going for it, a couple of very good moves, looks like the AL will come down to the Rangers vs the Indians, both of whom got better at the deadline.

Good for the Rangers, they've never won a World Series, so if you have a shot to go for it, then do it....................

Every team has to go through this process of tearing down and rebuilding. In the case of the Yankees, for the last few years they were good enough to have a decent season but not good enough to win it all and not bad enough to get top draft choices. If you looked at this year's team, you knew they were probably good enough to compete for a WC but not to make it to or win the WS. Since the ultimate goal is to win a championship, if you're not good enough for that, you have to change course, which is what they're doing.

The players they received will help them rebuild and when Harper and Jose Fernandez come onto the free market after 2018, they may be in prime position to compete for several years. That's just what George wants to hear.

Come to think of it, you're right in that eventually, every team has to go through the tearing down/rebuilding process.

As far as me getting upset that the MFY's have loaded up on minor league talent and are poised to spend dump trucks full of money on Fernandez and Harper; minor league talent is just that, minor league, yet to prove themselves in the big leagues, so we'll see how those players pan out.

And if they spend dump trucks full of money to add a couple of key pieces; they've been throwing bad money after good every year since 2000 and have a whopping one WS title to show for it while the Red Sox have three, so I say go for it, spend **** tons of money all you want and see where that gets you.....................

I never liked the concept of teams in any sport being able to load up for the playoffs. This happens in hockey as well. Teams that are out of the running unload guys at the deadline who effectively play out the season with whoever they are dealt to and then move on the next year. It is basically adding ringers for the playoffs. I would push the deadline back to earlier in the season or stop it altogether. Speaking of which I guess the Puig experiment in LA is over. I think the Dodgers badly mishandled him. Now they might not even be able to get anything for him.

The trading deadline is almost as the game itself, started in 1923. It's something I wouldn't want to see changed and no one wants it changed either.

The one thing that could use changing is expanding the rosters after August 31. Plenty of people want that reformed.

Bundy looked fantastic for the O's tonight. Looks like he's in the rotation to stay, unless he's on an innings count this season. Anyway, for the 2nd start in a row he carried a no-hitter into the 6th before yielding a hit. Ended with 0 runs allowed and just the 1 hit in 7 innings in the O's 5-1 win. -- Al

The mistake filled losses that were once anomalies of the Giants post All-Star break are becoming a pattern. Each loss seems to be worse than the last. Bumgarner got hammered today against the Phillies and the newly acquired Will Smith went 1/3 of an inning while giving up 2 earned runs.

I hope Cueto can stop the bleeding tomorrow.

Nats finished a 3 game sweep of Arizona today. Scored 32 runs in the 3 games. Our offense should work so well all of the time.:rolleyes2: Got SF coming in this weekend. Hope we stay hot. Should be a good series. Strasburg pitches on Saturday and Bumgarner pitches Sunday. -- Al

If the O's win the AL East it is going to be because of their hitting and their bullpen. The O's bullpen has a trio of 'lights out' relief pitchers that is better than any other trio in the game. These men are Britton (the closer), Brach, and O'Day. They are the 7-8-9 inning lockdowns that almost never fail. In fact, Britton is 33 for 33 in save opportunities, a MLB record for a LHP to start a season. The 3 pitchers have a combined record of 122 games pitched in, with 128 innings pitched. They have allowed only 76 hits and 18 earned runs. They have walked only 40 (control is the crucial factor for a successful relief pitcher), and have fanned 148. They have 38 combined saves and a combined ERA of 1.26, (Britton's ERA is an invisible 0.59). Get the O's to the 7th inning with a lead and it's all over. That was problematic for most of the season, as the starting pitching has been bad (with the obvious exception of Tillman), but this problem is starting to improve with the improvement of Gausman and Bundy. Things are looking good in B-more.:wink2: -- Al

Playoffs are all about pitching. If they don't have the starting pitching, I don't see much success for them. That is why I like the Indians: strength of their starting pitching.
