If the O's win the AL East it is going to be because of their hitting and their bullpen. The O's bullpen has a trio of 'lights out' relief pitchers that is better than any other trio in the game. These men are Britton (the closer), Brach, and O'Day. They are the 7-8-9 inning lockdowns that almost never fail. In fact, Britton is 33 for 33 in save opportunities, a MLB record for a LHP to start a season. The 3 pitchers have a combined record of 122 games pitched in, with 128 innings pitched. They have allowed only 76 hits and 18 earned runs. They have walked only 40 (control is the crucial factor for a successful relief pitcher), and have fanned 148. They have 38 combined saves and a combined ERA of 1.26, (Britton's ERA is an invisible 0.59). Get the O's to the 7th inning with a lead and it's all over. That was problematic for most of the season, as the starting pitching has been bad (with the obvious exception of Tillman), but this problem is starting to improve with the improvement of Gausman and Bundy. Things are looking good in B-more.:wink2: -- Al

The starting pitching has shown some improvement over the first half of the year, Bundy is seriously making a good name for himself, Gausman can pitch lights out once he finds his pitches, Tillman is just rock solid week in and week out so if our new lefty Wade Miley can start tonite and pitch like he did against the cubs on his last start well things can really start looking up for the starting staff and agree Al the relief pitchers have saved this team a many night in close games as in last night's win, right now I am hoping Davis, Trumbo can get back to hitting like they did in the first half, like I said last week if this team can put together 3 solid starters and heat the bats back up I think they will be fine...Sammy

Two interesting things about last night's Mets Yankees game. Arod didn't start again Colon, whom he basically owns. With runners on 1st and 2nd in the 9th and Yankees down by three Girardi didn't send up Texeira but left in Refsnyder. Even though he hit into a game ending DP, Girardi left him in to see how he would respond in a big spot. A good learning experience.

You could say the same about Arod. Time to give someone else a chance. The Yankees are on the hook for his salary so they probably have not released him because he's a good influence on the younger players, teaching them and mentoring them. Robinson Cano said he wouldn't have become the player he's become without Arod's help. Maybe he has a future as a coach.

I agree Brad, once the Yankees made all those trades, they tacitly acknowledged they had no chance this season. The players with the bad expiring contracts are going to lose playing time in favor of prospects. After 50 games in the majors, the Yankees will have a pretty good idea of the prospects' ability to play in the majors. If a couple of them pan out, this experience will be valuable when they are plugged in as starters next season.

I agree Louis, that's why I like what Girardi is doing, plus it's always great to see young kids get a chance. Let's hope Severino can start to show promise. He looked good the other night.

Looks like Teshata is retiring after the season is over.

I thought he was just horsing around here until I saw highlights of the press conference.

Thus ends his 8 year, 180 million dollar contract; one WS title, a .196 post season average, 8, count em, EIGHT extra base hits in the post season.

What a monumental bust of a contract.

No wonder the MFY's are unloading players and going younger; bet they can't wait until they get out from under Sherman Klump's, ARoids and Dreamboats deals as well.

Maybe the MFY's will be the new Twins/Brewers/Astros/Rays/Marlins...........ie, a small market payroll?

We'll see.

The Giants continue to struggle and now I am getting worried. I had hoped that post-trade deadline they would get going but they seem to have gotten worse. Their play is lackluster at best and they have no sense of urgency.

The MFY's have called an 11:00AM press conference tomorow for A-Roid.

Cashman and Girardi will speak afterward.

So both A-Roid and Horseface announce their retirement in the same week?

He's still owed 28 million; sorry MFY fans, I can't see him walking away from that much dough.

We'll see........................

Perhaps they have agreed to a payout for the balance of his contract and he will retire.

Who are you, who's behind you and what is your agenda?

Inquiring minds want to know.................^&grin

SF needs to figure out how to start Cain in every game against the Nats...:rolleyes2: He looks like Cy Young against them. -- Al

Tim Lincecum may be finished. The Angels have designated him for assignment. His ERA was over 9.

Too bad it didn't work out. I was pulling for him but he looked horrid in all but one game. Hope he pulls the pin and retires with some dignity in place. -- Al

No harm, no foul for both the Nats and the O's after their losses yesterday. Ends up all the teams in the AL East and NL East lost, with the exceptions of the last place teams. Go figure. -- Al

MLB Network is reporting the back four rows of the seating in the press conference are "reserved", which usually means the players sit there.

Wow, this is going to be a biggie.

One can only wonder;

They're naming a disease after him?
He'll be announced as the 16th captain of the MFY's?
Giradi is stepping down and A-ROID will be player/manager?
He's buying the team?
George Costanza is coming back to work for the team?

If Sherman Clump has a presser next, who's left for me to hate on the MFY's?

Oh yeah; coconut head in left, dreamboat in center, pinetarada on the mound, melon head behind home plate, didi (man does that name annoy me) patrolling the infield, the next free agent they sign to match the gross national product of South America...........................

One thing the MFY's never fail to do; field a team of players that go up my *** sideways...................

He's retiring.

Great.

Just think, years from now he'll be walking down the street and some Father will lean over to his Son and say "There goes the biggest fraud who ever lived"..................

The MFY's play the Red Sox in Boston this coming week................I'll make sure to get tickets to all of the games so whenever he comes up to bat, I'll boo his *** off for old times sake.......................................any Red Sox fan who stands and cheers him should be ashamed.

The greatest non move in the history of the Boston Red Sox was NOT getting this guy in the 2003 off season; if they did, they wouldn't have won one WS, nevermind three.......................

I take the long view and I don't think people will see it quite that way. They will see a player who was potentially one of the great players of the game but diminished his credibility, reputation and place in the history of the game with some questionable actions. Over time, people's attitude will somewhat soften.

If he wants to, he will probably be a coach because he loves the game. He's only going to be a special advisor and coach through the end of his contract. It's a for the Yankees to get a little return on their money and open up a roster spot.

What's happened to James Shields this season? The O's just knocked him out of the game with 1 out in the 2nd inning after torching him for 6 hits (4 Hr's) and 8 runs. His ERA is now 6.68 and if the O's hold on to win, his record will be 5-14. Big time off year.:rolleyes2: Part of the problem is the gopher ball. He has now given up 28 in 130 innings. -- Al

Machado of the O's is having a day. He's 3-3 (all Hr's) with 7 RBI's and it is still in the 3rd inning, 10-0 O's. -- Al

The Orioles are going to the World Series this year; ok, glad I said that and got it out of the way so that when it happens, I won't be caught by surprise and want to smash something into 10,000 pieces.

Good luck with it, let me know how it turns out all you LET'S GO O'S!! fans.

And it's no coincidence that this is the year Sammy finally makes it to the OTSN shpw...................................O's World Series trip-Sammy trip to OTSN.

We all know what that means; good old Sammy is the good luck charm the Orioles have been looking for since 1983..............................
