Now that the season is just a memory and it's starting to turn a little colder, it's time to think about 2016!

Lots of rumors circulating -- Zobrist to anybody (he's a hot commodity), where will David Price go (Giants and Cubs are rumored to be interested) and so forth. Zobrist to Mets would be a great fit. Mets are rumored to be interested in Denard Span or Parra. Rumors, just rumors.

What we do know for sure is that 20 qualifying offers were made and they probably will all be turned down. In the three years it's been around, not one player has accepted.

Lots of rumors surrounding the O's and Matt Wieters. He's going to be a great catcher for someone if the O's don't resign him. Nats are rumored to be interested. One thing for sure, the Nats are going to be a different team come spring with Baker as manager and so many regulars as free agents. Span (starting CF), Desmond (starting SS), and Zimmermann and Fister (starting pitchers), are all probably gone, with only Zimm being tendered. Desmond and Zimm are both long time Nats, fan favorites, and cornerstones of the team and will be sorely missed.
The O's problems are relatively basic, resign Davis and find starting pitchers. If they don't improve the pitching, 2016 will be another long and disappointing season. -- Al

During commercial breaks in the NFL games yesterday, we were watching the ticket on the MLB channel, watching the names of all of the free agents as of the end of this season. A number of starting rotations include pitchers who are eligible, and I'm curious to see what kind of deals we will see.

If there is a God in heaven, Price won't end up on my National League team, the Giants, but will end up on the Cubs, he of the shrinking package when the pressure is on come playoff time.

He shrinks under the bright lights of playoff baseball; PLEASE land in Chicago so Theo and Captain Smarmy can continue along with that 108 year old curse..............

Price, along with Cueto and Greinke, might draw the interest of Dombrowski.

There's also been some talk about maybe Harvey for Mookie Betts and Bogaerts. I've seen this mentioned in a couple of places.

Some teams will join in the Hot Stove League.

My Brewers will be in a corner by themselves trying to keep warm around a bunsen burner...maybe we can pick up a sausage maker and a ballboy to be named later.

George:

Fear not. The Giants get mentioned with just about every big free agent. Their payroll is already $172 mil (5th in the league). Management feels the need to make it seem like they are going after big names to appease the fans. It doesn't make sense considering they have won the World Series 3 of the last 6 years and they sold out every game even when they were mediocre.

Besides, the Dodgers will sign Price and Greinke, which will get them best record in baseball. Then, they will lose in the NLDS.

Harvey for Betts and Bogaerts would be a spectacular trade................................for the Mets.

It would be a disaster for the Red Sox, you'd be trading away two young, up and coming, cost controlled players.

That would be idiotic.

Well, the Phillies can cut away old growth and dead wood. Cliff Lee, Aaron Harang and Jerome Williams are all free agents, and I don't expect the Phils to make them any offers. Journeyman Jeff Francoeur is a free agent, too. I'd like to see him stay, to help fill out the outfield, but he'd probably cost more than they would want to spend at this time.

Prost!

Phillies would have to be crazy to tender Lee and Harang. Both are 37+ and are clearing $30 million off the books. I'm surprised Lee hasn't retired. -- Al

Based on what I saw last year, the Phillies have some nice young players and got back a couple of good pitchers in the Hamels trade. However, they aren't going to need some journeymen until they can some good arms in there.

If Amaro Jr were still the GM, I wouldn't have been surprised to hear that they did. With Klentack and MacPhail now in the saddle, I think we'll see some smarter dealing.

I just wish MacPhail would change his last name to MacWin.

Prost!

Nats starting to fill out the coaching staff as Davey Lopes, Mike Maddux, and it is rumored, Chris Speier, are joining Baker. Boy, that west coast connection is just getting stronger here in DC. I'm beginning to suffer flashbacks of Altamont, Monterray, Big Sur...:rolleyes2: All in all, it can't hurt to have the Maddux brothers hanging out with our pitching staff. -- Al

First good news of the 2016 season for the O's as Matt Wieters has accepted the O's qualifying offer, taking him off the FA market for another year. He is a big part of the O's.^&grin -- Al

I'm not sure the Os are happy about it. It's twice his 2015 salary. I think almost all teams don't think the player will accept it; they just want the compensation pick.

Angels have acquired Simmons but at a big price: their top two prospects and Erick Aybar, who will probably be moved at some point.

Sox have just acquired Kimbrel. Really improved their pen.

You might be right about the O's management not being thrilled but I would bet we fans are. I believe the O's wanted to let Wieters go to FA, but gambled by tendering him that he wouldn't accept and that they would get a draft pick when he signed elsewhere. He is a top-flight catcher and a fan favorite. O's just have to grin and bare it, along with opening up the purse strings. They also have to come up with money for Davis and O'Day. -- Al

They could probably work out a long term contract and tear up the QO. I don't think O'Day is headed back to Baltimore unless they offer him a lot; he's a hot commodity.

Can he pitch the from the 4th inning on?:p Michael

Congratulations to Jake Arrieta for winning the NL Cy Young award. He beat out Greinke and Kershaw took third. It was well deserved. -- Al

Alright, Bryce! Harper won the NL MVP in a unanimous vote today. First major baseball award for a player in DC since around 1925. A great year for him, even if the team under performed. Hard to imagine where the Nats would have been without him. -- Al
