Yup, no way in Hell was Anglelos going to pay 135 million to Chris Davis, hopefully he can spread some green around and keep O'day, Chen and bring in a few good players...Sammy
The O's talk show speculated that the Trumbo trade was in the offing, indicating Angelos had written off Davis to concentrate on O'Day and a FA starting pitcher, maybe Chen. And so it comes to be. Drat. I really was hoping Davis would be the priority. Two disappointments for me in two days on the local level. First, Zimm goes to Detroit, and now it's a certainty Davis is gone. Not liking the offseason so far. :( -- Al

Them's a lotta toy soldiers! But the Sox needed him.

Bosun Al

Agreed; they tried a foolish plan last year of having a bunch of mediocre pitchers, no ace, but four #3's or #4's and it failed miserably.

You need a true ace, he is the best available free agent, so go get him.

Now they have a lights out closer, an ace and a very, very good fourth outfielder in Young who they signed this week.

They went from cellar dwellers to legitimate AL East contenders in two weeks.

Well done Dave, go get a couple more bullpen arms and go from there.

Mets, Nationals, Dodgers and Giants are all seriously interested in Zobrist, with Cardinals and Cubs having some interest. However, he's seeking 4 years at $15 M per. I can't see the Mets offering a fourth year. Altough he's a nice player, he's no spring chicken: 34.

With the improvements the Red Sox have made, if the Giants somehow get Zobrist and Grenke, I'll be thrilled, my two favorite teams make major changes..................

I think Greinke will stay with LA because since if it's a question of money -- why else would he have opted out -- no one can match the deep pockets they have.

The Boston Media should all get together and drive around in a clown car; the majority of them are ripping this deal for Price.

These are the same ******s who if the MFY's signed him, they'd be ripping the GM for sitting on his hands while the MFY's swooped in and grabbed him, the prize free agent pitcher on the market.

They complained last year when the Sox tried to build a staff around four #4 starters, now they whine that they spent too much on a true ace.

Unbelievable.

He's a great regular season pitcher but has come up short up in the post season. That's something to consider.

Price, in fact, has 0 wins in post-season as a starter, 0-7. His 2 post-season wins were in relief. His post-season ERA is north of 5. Gotta figure his luck to change at some point. -- Al

Greinke has apparently signed a 6 year contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. No word on the money in the article I saw. -- Al

The Zimmermann contract in Detroit looks like the bargain of the year, money wise. Price gets $217 million, Greinke gets $206 mil, and Zimm 'only' got $110 mil. He should have waited. -- Al

You may feel the same way about the Giants but this is now the new reality. What will happen when Bumgarner becomes a free agent (assuming he's not locked up)? Strasberg and Harvey are represented by Boras. Those two are as good as gone.

Bumgarner is locked up until 2020.

Knowing Boras, there have been trade rumors swirling around Strasburg for 2 seasons now. Nats won't be able to afford to resign him, so the feeling is get as much for him now as you can before he goes for nothing but a possible draft choice. If loyalty counted for anything anymore, Zimmermann could still be in DC.
The Nats have signed lefty relief pitcher Oliver Perez in an attempt to bolster the pen. He's getting $7 mil over 2 years. -- Al

I'm sure Mets will trade Harvey this year or next. They have him under control for three years but he's proving to be more trouble than he's worth.

I'm shocked Ollie is still in baseball. One of the worst Mets signings, ever.

Well, he certainly won't be a starter as he was earlier in his career, and I'm sure he'll be nothing more than a specialty, 1 out type pitcher. Can't see him other than that, judging by his innings totals the last few years. Hopefully he's got a couple of effective years in him. -- Al
