Yeah great, think of where they would have finished without him.................oh wait...........

I remember one year Andre Dawson won it when he played for the Cubs.

They finished last that year.

Rizzo should have gotten it, better yet, even though he only was on the team for a few months, Cespedes carried the Mets to the playoffs.

Without him, maybe they don't even make it to the playoffs, who knows.

Latest Nats related rumors are that O'Day and Chapman are on the want list. Future dollars for Harper being kicked around are for 6 years/180 million (low side) to 15 years/450 million ({eek3}). Well, it would make him a Nat for life.:rolleyes2: -- Al

It might make him a Nat for life as he will wind up being the owner {eek3}

Former pitcher Ken Johnson has died at age 82. He is mainly remembered as the only man to ever throw a complete game 9 inning no-hitter, by himself, and lose. It occurred in 1964 when he was pitching for the Houston Colt .45's. He threw it against the Reds, who included Frank Robinson and Pete rose in the line-up, and the final score was 1-0. The lone run scored in the 9th because of 2 errors. RIP. -- Al

The Tigers have signed Zimmermann, 5 years 110 million from initial reports.

Not bad...............one less pitcher on the market.

The betting seems to be that Price will sign with the Red Sox.

Breaks my heart. Zimm was my favorite Nats pitcher but he was leaving and that is that. He wanted to go closer to home in Wisconsin and Detroit is closer than DC. Good luck, Zimm. -- Al

Yeah right, the old "closer to home" load of BS; like when Teshata signed with the MFY's because he wanted to be closer to his wifes family in Baltimore.

First off, who wants to get closer to their wifes family, the object is to get as far away as possible; secondly, if that was the case, doesn't he know there is a team in Baltimore?

Probably not, the horse faced stooge that he is.

I hope your girlfriend is not reading this forum :D

I think the Zimm going to Detroit thing is a matter of hurt pride. Zimm turned down a contract extension last year when the Nats offered him a 5 year $105 million deal. Evidently he felt he was worth more and decided to wait for FA. Well, he signs for the same deal + $5 million in Detroit, so the money couldn't have been the real reason for leaving. Piqued pride and the Scherzer deal made Zimm feel disrespected (in today's vernacular). After seeing the money Scherzer got ($220 million, 10 years), Zimm must have felt leaving town was his best bet. The Nats have botched several dealings with personal over the last 2 years, including dumping Clippard to save $2 million and then cutting the feet out from under Storen with the bullpen demotion/signing of Papelbon. Beginning to think the Nats are starting to be the 3-ring circus that the Redskins have been for years. -- Al

I think that was the prediction but $30 million a year? Crazy. And they gave him an opt out. That's just nuts. If you're paying someone $30 million, why do they need an opt out. I guess that makes Cueto looks smart for rejecting the D'backs offer of $120 M for 6.

I know everyone seems to love Price but his struggles post-season have me doubting that he is worth 30mil a year. He may get them to the playoffs, so in that respect, yes, but that post-season history...That is a lot of money for him. -- Al

It's actually 31 million a year.............WOW, that's just insane, the highest paid pitcher in baseball.

Considering they've finished in last place three out of the last four years, I'll take him getting them to the playoffs.

Anything past that is gravy, finishing in last place is no fun.

The opt out is after three years; so, if he pitches out of his mind for three years and feels "underpaid" at 31 million a year, he can opt out and go elsewhere.

How is that a bad thing for the team? He pitches well (win), maybe they win a WS in that time (win/win) and at 33, he moves on as his skills are sure to decline (win/win/win).

Just wow.

Quite understandable and he is good enough to do it. It's just so much money that it makes Zimmermann's signing for $110million in Detroit look like the bargain of the century. -- Al

The Orioles just traded for Trumbo, the former LAA and Diamondbacks first baseman, he'll be a free agent in 2017.

Adios to their current first baseman.

It's a bad thing because the player leaves when he's doing well, like Greinke. No one opts out if they have a terrible year as market value will go down. You're basically giving the player all the cards. Speaking of which, the Cards offered him a 7 year deal also but the Red Six sweetened it, probably with the opt out.

Yup, no way in Hell was Anglelos going to pay 135 million to Chris Davis, hopefully he can spread some green around and keep O'day, Chen and bring in a few good players...Sammy
