Re: battle for arnhem....

Nice to see some of the 'oldies' brought back out of retirement for action. Usual great pics Kevin.

Re: battle for arnhem....

They had been told by some other troops that there were many British coming their way, so Kurt called over the section MG and set it up covering the most likely approach from the wood- he also called for tank support......................

Re: battle for arnhem....

I like the old sets too, especially the four pzgrs, they are very cleverly balanced not to need a base. I also love the painted hobnails on the soles of the boots!

Re: battle for arnhem....

Bill inched forward through some long grass, and fortunately saw the Germans ahead across the field. Stopping for a while to make sure he was not discovered, he then withdrew and warned the rest of his unit..................

Re: battle for arnhem....

Hearing the shooting, a panther followed up the STuH's assault, but it was brought to a shuddering halt by a well placed 6 pdr anti-tank gun shooting into it's flank, causing the engine to stall.

The panther slewed to an uneven halt and the the crew baled out............meanwhile, the supporting infantry laid down a withering surpressive fire, forcing the 6 pdr to hook up and pull out to a new position.

This completed, the crew of the panther set about checking the tracks and seeing if the engine would start again.

Meanwhile, Jock took up position on the other side of the StuH, using it and a hedge as cover, whilst he prepared to lay down supporting fire................

They were successful in scaring off the panther crew. Ted crawled up alongside Bill to cover him in the next little advance........

Re: battle for arnhem....

The German squad advanced to protect the tank, but by now Bill and Ted had positioned themselves behind a fence post and a fallen gate.

They were perfectly positioned to ambush Kurt - it was only his long experience that helped him see the ambush just in time and pull his men back whilst the paratroops opened up with sten and rifle fire - the Squad pulled back to regroup and get reinforcements.................and the paratroops advanced nearer the bridge.............
