When I saw that "rev.pete" (husband to Shannon Reuss) was selling the K&C set# SP15 (damaged Reich Chancellery Entrance Way) on eBay I decided to get it as I saw that it was becoming a retired set and I thought that I could make up a small or vignette display representing the Fall of Berlin in very early May 1945. I have placed this display on the shelve just below the circa 1938 display of "Hitler's Berghof" so as to show two displays close together that represent "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich". At first I thought about getting a couple of K&C sets of German troops in combat positions. I then got the idea to have the display show the ultimate end of the Nazi era in Germany & Europe by just showing the greatly damaged Reich Chancellery with a dead German soldier and an elderly woman in shock looking at the dead German soldier which I also got from Tree Frog Treaures. The dead German soldier is K&C set# WS170,"Hitler Junge" or Hitler Youth. The old woman is set# FOB063, "Old Woman by the Road" from K&C's relatively new "Refugees" series of sets. In any case, I think that no one can say I am saying anything positive about the Nazi era in this particular miniature display.

Very very nice Iron Brigade.I love your idea of combining two different series with eachother. It must not always be fighting scenes. This simple scene is very catching. Completely my style
well done
Guy:)

Hi Gary,

A simple but effective display.....the End of the Third Reich.

Thanks, Raymond.:)

A freind of mine to justify his Berlin 1938 dio
made one similar but bigger cause LAH was big dio
entitle Before and After
Then nobody could say anything about the LAH dio (politic)
Each his own i quess

Seems a lot of work just in case sensitivities are ruffled but, would be a very interesting project. Here is one Hitler designed and, here is the one after allied airmen decided to remodel.

Nice dio, sometimes less is more.

Dear "MapleLeaf":
Thanks for your comments about a fellow collector that you know. My last sentence of my introduction to the #4 photos of the "Berlin 1945 Vignette Dispaly" was put in because of the many comments over time Andy Neilson has gotten about his having too many Nazi era sets. Also, I remember one of my wife's relatives many years ago when I had a smaller Berlin 1938 LAH display say "how could you!" relative to the rather small LAH display at that time. As Winston Churchill said: "Those who ignore certain unplalable aspects of history are doomed to repeat them over and over again". I did not set up this small Berlin 1945 display to be politically correct, I just thought it would make an interesting and meaningful addition to my now over 1/2 a dozen 20th century displays and dioramas. Perhaps Andy Neilson would like to make a comment?

Listen my freind
LAH is one of the best seller even Andy will tell u that
Every toy soldier show i went , there were many display of LAH

Personnally i found the serie very colorful so is my son.
I bet lots of collectors do.Collector Showcase came up with their own.
Wy , good question , right.(good seller)
I had bought many LAH from beginning.
When i went to display , same thing.
City Hall said (u know who i mean) u can't do that we have too many Jewish
freinds. Been in closet since then.
U don't fight city hall u know that. My son told me let's make some room.
Starting to sell them. Instead wee started with RAF. Got the two girls first

Dear "MapleLeaf":

Thanks again for your comments again. The Nazi period is a big if unfortunate part of 20th century history. It is hard to ignore! As I do not plan on displaying my displays & dioramas on general public display I can put up with the likely only one time non thinking visitor to my house. I do have the quotation by Winston Churchill posted above the 22 x 28 inch display of my "Berlin 1938 Parade" display using all K&C sets should anyone ever again make a fuss about it. And if they do not like Churchhill's comment they can just leave.

Hi MapleLeaf,

Given the diversity of ranges that K&C produces, I personally would have selected a non-LAH diorama to highlight. (IMHO)

Cheers, Raymond.:)

Thanks to the defeat of the Nazi's we live in a fee world and are at total liberty to collect whatever we want. If LAH floats your boat then good luck to you I say. The figures are colourful and well made.

What I object to is when certain collectors of said LAH tell anyone who has a differing opinion to pretty much shut up and go somewhere else, because Lack of tolerance of freedom of speech is what the regime of the LAH was all about.

Hey Raymond,

Even though I don't collect it myself SOHK has some wonderful figures and would make a fine display.

Cheers

Rob

Its a balancing act. I collect LAH and have them displayed but, they are in a room with all my other WWII stuff so, they represent an entire conflict and, need no justification for being in my collection.

Now there may be different reasons why people collect certain things but, this is a forum about toy soldier collecting and whether one likes it or not the germans and parade figures are part of that hobby and, should IMO not attract the detrimental coverage they do on this site. Thats not censorship thats accepting they are part of our hobby just like other items with unsavoury pasts are.

If we on here cannot accept that then we are all doomed and, there seems little hope of educating different generations of what went on.

I am a little sceptical of using Winston for seemingly defence of these sets but, that is done. I would certainly not put a quote from Churchill near a display of SS figures but, that is my option and choice.
Mitch

Quite right Mitch , freedom is a wonderful and hard won thing and anyone can choose what they collect and of course LAH is a part of the collecting world and so it should be.

It's only when some people mouth off because they can't stand another point of view that it annoys me, if it's ok to say you love collecting LAH then it's just as valid if you say you loathe it, that's freedom.

Rob

Rob...

Totally agree and, if they do then they open themselves to as you say those that loathe them. My opinions of the Nazi regime and why I collect LAH parade figures are noted already on a forum post.
Mitch
