Best Crime film (1 Viewer)

Clint's first Dirty Harry movie....the killer was great...scorpio.

I'm with Marco; The Godfather is the tops, a classic. That said, Goodfellas by far is my personal all time favorite...............

Agree George, Goodfellas is the movie! Based on the true story, it was a helluva way to tell the tale. I liked Casino too. Of course Godfather(s) are great too. I can watch any gangster flick and be happy.

Dirty Harry for me,also like The roaring twenties with J.Cagney.

I wouldn't argue with any of the so far listed movies-all great crime films-but my favorite real gritty crime movie was the original "Get Carter" with Michael Caine in his best screen portrayal as the cold blooded killer/gangster Jack Carter.

The film accurately depicts a dirty/dangerous Newcastle City as Jack tracks down and systematically despatches the crime gang and unbelievably their girl-friends as well who had killed his brother. He does it all with cool relish right up to the final villain who he has smashed his skull to pulp and then strolls nonchantly along a pebble beach allowing himself his first smile- only to be taken out by a hidden hit-man. A cracking British crime movie and easily Caine's best performance ever on screen-Yeah and that includes Zulu!

Don't judge this film on the very poor Stallone remake in the '90's-No contest!

Ronin.
Super slick, and the car chase scenes are topped only by Mr McQueens epic.

A great fan of Godfather, Scarface, Goodfellas, Casino.
More recently The Departed was a good one. Plenty of good actors in there. Loved the interview scene with Wahlberg, Baldwin and DeCaprio and Nicholson's casual handling of the hand in the office. Nicholson's two main henchmen played by British actors (Ray Winston and the guy who played the crazy Irish warrior in Braveheart).
Regards
Brett

All great films. Must add "City of Industry" and "Layercake". -- lancer

I prefer the Hong Kong version of "The Departed" ..Infernal Affairs..it was really good ..in the list of Andy i'll add Donnie Brasco..i really liked that..and i agree every word on Get Carter the original (and the one..i'm sorry but Michael Caine is far greater actor than Stallone if not the best of the world..)..just look at the scene when Jack Carter is in the bed and pass from laughing to tears...i didn't see many actors do that..just De Niro in Mission...but that was another De Niro and even today the performances of Caine are top notch.

It seems we've forgotten about some of the noir films and movies of the 40s and 50s.

Not in that vein but one that I liked was Lock Stock and Barrel.

Double indemnity for one.

Ronin.

Ronin is one of my favorite films to watch; I am still waiting to replace my dvd with a decent blu ray version. The acting and writing was first rate and the characters were very interesting. I must respectfully submit however that the chase scenes were actually better that those in Bullit, another favorite of mine; as is McQueen.;):D

I always thought a line of real gangsters would make an interesting toy soldier line. Particularly with the new Dillinger movie coming out and the 75th anniversary of the deaths of Bonnie and Clyde in May:

Goodfellows, if not for SPR, it would be my all time favorite movie.
But just crime movies, The French Connection and Serpico are right there.
There is something about the NYPD that facinates me.
