Best DDAY Sherman Tank in the least expensive price range? (1 Viewer)

Hi.
I am considering adding a D-Day Sherman tank to my 60mm matte collection.

After looking at the armor that run $100+, I am leery of jumping into the fray without good advice.

I noticed some rather inexpensive examples by KnC, is it an accurate piece?

I am open to plastic and metal

Are there other companies that I should look at? Forces of Valor. etc. ?

The best Sherman tanks in 1/30 scale, IMHO, were the ones made by Honor Bound (Argentina). Unfortunately they are no longer in production. You may still find them once in a while in E bay. They produced the 76mm barrel version and the more expensive Golden series with the 75 mm barrel version. Honor Bound customized the paint and markings of their tanks to the specification of the buyer. The Panther and Tiger Tanks produced were equally superb!

The Honor Bound tanks are far too expensive. will cost you easily well over $200 each nowadays as long out of production. And their paintwork is far too light if you ask me. See the Figarti DD tank below - this is the best Sherman you will find but also well over $200 as OOP.

However, the cheapest is definitely the K&C plastic DD tanks. Can get for $75. Then you can have it repainted to look like a Figarti Sherman (or HB one if you prefer) - should only cost around $40+ or so plus postage there and back to an expert painter!

That's a really good run down on various Shermans out there. I used to love my Figarti one with fording stacks, but it developed paint ships like so much of their stuff did. It was a great-looking model though. Another affordable one is K & C's DD093 classic Sherman. It's retired but can be found on ebay for usually less than the old retail price of $165.00. I would get that one rather than the knc one.

Following up on some of the posts in this thread, HB made two types of Sherman, the Gold and non-Gold. The former will easily cost over $1,000 and if you can find the non Gold one for $200, run, don’t walk to purchase it.

Most of the Figarti ones were nice — I had two of them and never had an issue with them. However, they’re expensive in the secondary market.

FL has made some nice ones but not cheap.

As Joe said you can find some good bargains with K & C. My personal favorite is DD 45. Yes, it’s probably not to scale but I still like it. Never purchased DD 93 but it’s very well done. They are also around $300 on eBay.

If the OP likes larger figures like King and Country or Thomas Gunn, then the Collectors Showcase Shermans were very well done. Much better tracks than King and Country. They also tend to be cheaper; readily available for their $165-$200 retail on eBay. Often you can find them even cheaper. Very nice models for the price. The earliest versions were the best with their extra damaged track and extra shot up turret.

FOV Shermans and M26's are decent models. Frontline and WB US infantry figures will work with them.

I agree with Hunter that the TCS Sherman's are quite well done and are very economical.

My favorite Shermans are not 1/30. I have an Armor 1/25 diecast metal M4A3E8 76mm and a 1/16 Tamiya M4A3E8 105mm with a neat working suspension and metal tracks. The larger scales make highly detailed display pieces and figures are available too.

I love both the Honour Bound and Figarti Sherman tanks. I always thought the Figarti armored vehicles were a great value, but, truthfully, the Honour Bound, while very expensive, are far and away my favorites. Two favorite companies and they are gone HB way ahead of its time still has better track quality than some of todays companies.
