He is what he is and I doubt anything we say, like Al said, is going to make him change. There are just some people you can't reason with.

One thing I've found from participating in forums is that you will meet a lot of different people on here, some you like (such as you, Michael, Konrad and others) and some you won't. Sort of like life in general.

I just got my first bid retraction this AM. I put many (87) auctions on last Sunday and this one got a bid right away. It was for 4 Britains or Britains type officers, a mixed lot. The opening amount was $10. Now, 6 days later, the bidder retracted the bid stating he entered the wrong amount. He entered $10.75 and was the only bidder. Just seems like cold feet to me. Worst part is he is the high bidder on 3 other items. I hope he doesn't change his mind on those.

I have sold about 100 toy soldier sets in the last month and I finally hit my first guy that hasn't paid. It's been 6 days and no money. Opened a case on him last PM. The funny thing is that he sent me a question about another auction of mine about 2 days ago, one that was active. I replied to his question and mentioned he had not paid. I don't mean to be difficult but I think 5 days is plenty, especially if you have the time to go on to ebay and look enough to ask me a question about my other auctions.

Still I am pleased with how the sales have gone. Some really cool items, like a pontoon bridge set have not gotten much interest. A lead model of a WWI tank that was put together 40 years ago, painted a bit and put up for auction for $5 ended up selling for $87. There's been a few of those type auctions. Some other things like the pontoon bridge set that are much cooler and priced below $87, more like $50 to $60, have not fared so well yet.
 
Retman57 - You can change your settings to have Ebay automatically step in after some many days of non-pays. I have only had a few of those and usually once Ebay sends them a notice, they pay up right away.

Just wait until you get the lovely customers that have obviously torn up the item you sent but claim it was damaged in shipping. Of course, they can't prove it was shipping by sending pictures of the damaged box because they didn't keep the box. The last guy that did this to me had the item for 22 days before filing for refund. :mad:

My favorite so far has been the kid at a boarding school that ripped a Forces of Valor diecast vehicle off the base without removing the screws at the bottom then wanted his money back. :rolleyes2: Needless to say I will not ship to boarding schools any longer.
 
I could tell you a few stories too...
but still...it's the best game in town...
Ebay has no real competitor...
for a toy soldier audience/market...

The guy I reported never did pay up so I relisted the items. Funny though because he did contact me regarding shipping on another auction. I replied re that and mentioned he had not paid for the other auctions. Not a word and nothing after I reported it to ebay and they did whatever they do.

Re the 22 days and damaged in shipping: Wouldn't they have to report it to the post office and show them that the box was damaged? I send everything priority and that comes with $50 insurance. If the item is much more than that, say $100, I pony up the $3 or whatever to cover the shipment in case it does get lost, damaged, etc. I would expect the post office insurance to pay, no?

Nope, the buyer has 30 days to file for a refund with Ebay and Ebay is going to give it to them if you don't work something out. I asked for proof of the damaged box but he didn't have the box anymore. I highly suspect he knocked off the table or dropped it and did the damage himself. Some people have just figured out a way to work the system and get money back from sellers.
And the post office will not pay you(the seller) if you can't provide proof of damage in shipping - even with priority mail.

Amazing that the buyer doesn't have to cooperate w/ USPS or whatever carrier when reporting damaged in shipping. I see they have up to 60 days to report it to USPS insurance.
 
Received a French 75 field piece in yesterdays mail with the boxed crushed. Thanks to this discussion, I photographed the package prior to opening. Fortunately it was OK.

Ebay has fixed it where the buyer just has to file a complaint and if buyer & seller don't resolve it themselves, then Ebay just refunds the buyer. I've gotten the impression that responsibility is pretty much all on the seller. What's really bad is as a seller, you can not leave any negative or neutral feedback on a buyer. Besides, USPS has made it so difficult to file a claim with them. They have you jump through hoops trying to collect.

Thankfully on the global shipments, seller does have a little better odds. As long as the global shipping center received the item in good condition, then seller can wait for Ebay to step into the dispute and make their own claim so they're not out the money and the item. Also, if you purchase postal insurance, then seller can file a claim to be reimbursed by Ebay. I've had experience with both situations.

Al - glad the piece was okay despite the damaged box.
 
In my opinion, he should be kicked off eBay. 367 retractions in 6 months. That's absurd.
