December 1883....the Egyptian expedition force under General Hicks has been massacred by the Mahdists......a royal navy expeditionary force has marched from Suakin into the Sudanese desert.

Having set their Gatling and Gardener guns into position at an apparently deserted village square the sailors are assailed by Mahdists from 3 sides and a desperate fight starts for the guns .

A frenzied fight follows as the royal marines retreat to a 2-deep firing line......

A little spooky Andrew as this afternoon I decided to put down some Green paper as terrain on the shelf containing these exact figures, so I man handled around 100 I have not moved for 4 years.. Excellent display you have. I collected these way back in 2010, really junky heavy figures. Robin.

Thought you may like to see my figures Andrew. On reflection adding Green terrain might not be the best given the Sudan was desert mainly. Perhaps mine are operating close to the Nile.{sm4}, Robin.

That's a very solid looking firing line you have there Robin, plenty of strength in depth!

i like the green as the contrast with the greys and whites of the soldiers makes them stand out. Works well for a shelf display
where desert brown would be dull.

It would be nice for jjd to revisit the sudan with the occasional new release piece. Dead and wounded pieces
needed for dioramas.......a conspicuous feature of mahdists charging into gatling guns.
