Bored Tonight...Post a Diorama, LOL (2 Viewers)

Tank looks great, though the motorbike-sidecar combo looks a little off scale :smile2:

Thanks to the generosity of Kevin Elliott (Panda1gen), here are some shots of an Honour Bound Winter Field Kitchen and some Figarti horse drawn winter WWII German sets on an Eastern Front Diorama built by Ken Osen of Britains/Hudson & Allen Studios:

Nicely done Louis, the diorama by Ken Olsen in the set up also looks very good. On the HB theme ... another escapee from 'the Bulge'

I presume this is the number 1 tank in E company - would this be the commander?

In general, yes Kevin my friend- your assumption is correct. Not sure if the turret number is in the correct place here on your model or not as I am not intimately familiar with positioning ID information. I know in the modern US Army, we call them "bumber numbers" which identify the unit, and vehicle number- so for example say you see bumber number "1506 BCO B-24" That would mean the vehicle is with the 1st Battalion 506 Inf, Bravo Company, 2nd platoon, 4th squad. They are called "bumber numbers" because the marking is on the "bumper" of the vehicle. (Not sure if "bumper" is a term used by my friends across the channel or not! {sm2})

Best regards my friend

Artillery Crazy

Thanks for posting, I don't have any of these sort of sets, but love seeing photos of your magnificent collection, please keep them coming! :salute::

Chris,

Lovely to hear from you and thanks for taking the trouble to explain. I have never served, but have never heard of a 'bumber number' before.

We do use the term 'bumper' for a car. I confess I don't know if 'bumper' is/was used on tanks in the British Army.

As for numbering, we have so few of them one might even learn all their names ^&grin

I hope you got your Stug!

I think the “rocks” were diorama bases by Traverse Diaramics.

I was admiring the rocks in these photos, did you make them?

Hi Panda1gen, thanks for the note....The big black rocks are Britains Diorama Series and the cliffs/pass as well as the second group of rocks are Traverse! They are just great and adapt to dios from many different periods...
Cheers

Luiz,

agreed they look good in different scenarios, thanks for sharing,

One in a Million?

When I first started out, this thread was an inspiration and this is before you think of all the other threads it inspired as well. The dioramas that Carlos started this off with (and the amazing contributions over the years from a whole host of people - I dare not mention anyone because I would surely miss someone out) were superb and showed all of us collections you would never own yourself or see a way of displaying them or photographing them that you may never have thought of.

This thread has so far nearly 650,000 hits. What about keeping it going at least until it has at least 1,000,000 hits - has anyone ever done that? What do you think?

The best thing about it IMO is that it is nobody's and everybody's. Lots of people have contributed, so many different periods, styles and settings have been displayed. Many different collections from all over the world have featured.

Years ago, this was the first place I would look on the forum. There were far fewer threads then, it seems to me. I would guess there are many parts of this vibrant forum I don't know even exist. I even found a thread where Louis had some great photos posted about toy soldiers I had never heard of or seen before! I wonder what other masterpieces I am missing?

Perhaps we could encourage more people to contribute further? Perhaps we could steer newcomers this way? I am guilty of starting other threads of dioramas pictures, but what if regular contributors slip the odd photo or three in here as well? New viewers would maybe look at their threads as well if they found them interesting?

Is a million possible or even worth a try?

(I'll have a lie down now.)
