Hi Guys,
You don't have to watch Oprah to know she has just announced she is taking her show to Australia.
300 audience members and 150 crew for two shows. Quantas plane flown by John Travolta etc.
The Federal and State Govt's are putting in almost US$3 million to pay all the expenses for the show and 8 days in Oz. Money does not go to Oprah.
In terms of marketing it is a brilliant idea and has to be one of the best value advertising campaigns thought of in relation to airtime and viewers (and online followers).
I believe the same money gets you an ad during the Superbowl !.
When Tiger Woods came here to play a Golf tournament the State chipped in a siimilar amount just for him to play.
All over the TV and radio etc here.
Whoever came up with the idea deserves a promotion.
Can any body think of other good marketing campaigns.
Viewers are going to be pretty impressed when they find out the show will be filmed at the Sydney "Oprah" House !!!!
Regards
Brett

Could you do us a big favor stateside and keep her "down under"! :D

Yes I agree (with Brad):D when you say all the funds came from Federal and

State Government........I pray you are referring to Australia!

Last thing in the world we need is anyone wasting another $1 of

US Taxpayer's money!

Oprah fly her mob here and she can fly me to Chicago, fair trade........:D

Not a fan myself but as far as advertising goes $3 million for that kind of publicity is cheap.

Australian Govt spent A$40 million a few years ago on a TV campaign in UK with a blond saying "Where the B****Y H**L are you ?

I am more of a Letterman fan (was thinking of starting a Letterman V Leno poll !!!).

Regards
Brett

What a waste of $3 million dollars. The economy and world in the state it is and, the money she has.

Dross TV for the terminally insane IMO and, a far better use of money could be found.

I rarely watch Jay Leno, but I am a big fan of his Big Dog Garage!

It is one of the best sites on the internet, always a lot of fun viewing his

collection, and seeing him burn a little rubber!:D

Seems to me that last time Oprah did a big give away, it was automobiles...and the winners got slammed with surcharges and excise taxes that some could not afford to pay. Maybe she'll like it in AU and stay. Can we trade her for Miranda Kerr?...please?...pretty please?!!!

Yes, lets stow Dr Phil in the bathroom!!!!

I like The Daily Show with John Stewart and Colbert Report.

Brad, again we agree. Let Australia keep her and if Rosie ODonnel was part of the package, it would be cause for celebration!

Your governments are paying to bring her to Oz? You're already lost. Get ready to surrender your little buddies next and put on dresses.

That's great, I don't deny her philanthropic works, but I don't think the government-any government-should fork over money for something like bringing a talk show host to the country. And she could certainly afford to pay for everything herself.

I don't think they should pay for sports arenas, either. I'm with those who call Allentown's Coca-Cola Stadium "Taxpayer Park".

Prost!

I would hazzard a guess that the money that the Oprah visit generates would more than cover the governments expenses.

I hate to be "that guy" but....

"....She is also reported to have contributed several hundred thousand dollars for rehabilitation therapies for war veterans who have lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan wars...."

Scott your right, leave Rosie at home. If both Oprah and Rosie were to step ashore together on Australia those two heavy duties would sink the island!

Sorry, but that's not my point, my point is that it's not the business of a government to act as an entertainment agent.

Prost!

Actually I like Rosie for her feistiness and recognize that both of them do good works.

Is it really gentlemanly to go after a woman's looks if we don't agree with her? Both these women are successful in something where nobody gets hurt.
