Britains Durbar Question (2 Viewers)

Hi Vamp,

Your Durbar collection is very, very impressive! I love your procession. Thanks for sharing it!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat

I am working on it. Yours and Daves' are better. I do appreciate the help I have received from you both.

OK I am going to be looking for the State elephant 08956. I like the looks of this one Pat and Dave I know you have them. Question is it not a little strange to have the Durbar elephant and the state elephant together?

Go for it! I think there are no rules where it comes to toys...I mix my scales up with my Delhi Durbar stuff and ( I am sure ) all kinds of any regimental errors:eek:

Hi KV,

If I am reading the question correctly you are wondering about the elephants being together at the Durbar. The short answer is it is totally correct to display them together The 1st 2 elephants from Britains numbers 8848 and 8956 are what was considered the Imperial Elephants and were the first ones to enter the Durbar Dias area with the opening of the Cerimony. The rest of the Elephants that came in were carrying all of the Indian Princes and various other dignitaries. I have the procession order and can posty it if you want.

But like I said before its fine to display the elephants together. If you want to display the procession deeper into the parade them you can display Lord and Lady Curzon in their seat set#00264 and put them in center of the dias You could also pick up some spare chairs and place the Duke and Duchess of Connaught with them surrounded by a throng or dignitaries and aides or "Strap Hangers"

Hope this helps KV

All the best

Dave

Ya know I may be able to pull that off. But iy will require more tables. I am going to build a pub table. Then I will have to get one of the Ikea display table.

Hi Sirsydney,

Now that you have decided to collect the Delhi Durbar, you will be walking down a very exciting path. As you probably know, Britains produced a total of four Durbar elephants. The first one, Britains #8848 is by far the most rare and most difficult one to find. If you succeed in locating one, be prepared to pay a premium for it. Also, if you find it in auction, be prepared for some stiff competition as the elephant is in high demand among Durbar collectors.

The remaining three elephants can be found on eBay and I have seen them sell for anywhere between $150.00 to $250.00. I think I have also noticed that competition for the Durbar figures has seriously increased during the past year and, consequently, the prices have been rising.

In my opinion, the final Treefrog Forum authority on the Britains Dehli Durbar line is Dave. I am certain he will soon be along to either confirm or revise what I have stated above.

Welcome to the wonderfully adicted world of the Delhi Durbar! :)

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Hi Sir Sydney

Pat is indeed correct on the issue of the Elephants. It appears that the numbers for the 1st one are very very low so if you find it and can afford it get it. It is my favorite one from Britains but they are all quite nice.

There are auctions currently going on ebay for the three others of which I would focus on the one bearing the Duke and Duchess of Connaught then the others. They seem to be in the price range Pat has also quoted so I cant add to that but I will advise you to call London Bridge Toy Soldier Shop in Pennslyvania. 610-967-6887 He has a web site but doesnt post his retired sets and he has a lot of sets and will have very good prices so call before you dump a bunch of cash on ebay to make sure he doesnt have them in stock. He has helped me out several times and I am sure he will be helpful to you too.

I will also be happy to provide you with a complete list of the series if you dont already have one. Just let me know and I'll send it or post it or copy and send via snailmail, just PM me your address if you want. I live up the coast from you near Olympia.

All the best

Dave

Check out Dave's post today about the Delhi Durbar under the General Toy Soldier discussion section.

Does any one have a picture or could they take a picture of Bengal Lancers with a Blue Kurta? Like the 15th Bengals (I think)

Hi KV,

Ask and you shall receive. The soldiers pictured are dismounted 15th Bengal Lancers. I also have mounted 17th Bengals if you would like to see them for reference.

All the best

Dave

Dave, Those are perfect! Both sides too! The more pictures the merrier. We need more posts on Durbar. Thank you so much.

How about a picture from the colorized version of the "Lives of a Bengal Lancer" ?

Hi KV,

Glad to help. I will have to post some pictures of some of the new guys on the block here. Been so crazy that I havent had a chance to mess around with the displays at all.

Look forward to viewing the new castings. For the 17th Bengals the tunics and pants and boots are the same colors big differences of course at the waist sash and turbans colors. I'll repost a picture of them for you.

All the best

Dave
