Hi All,

I figured since we spend so much time talking about our current sets we might take a bit of time to discuss our older sets or figures or maybe some of our favorites. I'm an old Cavalry/Lancer fan so I thought I would post a picture of my latest acquisition and maybe generate some discussion of toys from our youth or maybe our fathers youth if thats the case. So here is a picture of the Mounted Field Marshall with binoculars from a set from a long while back. So enjoy.

All the best

Dave

Dave what set is this from? Do you know what era it's from?

These are not old, but I thought you might like to see these Britains recasts I painted a while ago....Royal Horse Artillery.

I have just started to collect Britains recasts as well as Wessex and other soldiers of that style. Will try to take pictures and post them......Michael

Hi Jrsteel,

The sale said it was from set 201. But I'm not one hunderd % sure. I saw one years ago and have wanted it since so when the chance came I jumped on it. I am hoping someone who is more knowledgeable in the older sets will let me know for sure. I think that it is from the interwar era 1930's but like I said I'm not 100% I just know I was really glad to find one.

I love those recasts they look fantastic!

Dave

here is a couple of my favourite britains hollowcast
Seaforth highlanders charging and New zealand infantry
I only have a few of the old sets but I like them as a
point of reference for where the hobby has come from.

Awesome job. A good place to get Britains recasts if you're in the U.S is London Bridge Collector's Toys. If I knew how, I'd provide a link. They have a website.

Call me crazy, but if someone were to offer me some new beautiful St.Petersburg firgures or these old Britains , I'd take the Britains.
For me, they're just what a toy soldier is.

Hi Jrsteel,

I would have to agree but I would sure ask if I could have both...:D

I have a couple of Seaforth Highlanders too they are really great!

I think this little thread is going to be a lot of fun to look at.

Hi Dave
Still my favourite brand of traditional toy soldier,
I,ve had no luck tracking down a heirloom set as yet.
Nice mountrd figure ,have you got any lancers to go with him ?

I know what you mean,Although they are all classed as toy soldiers
and I like both traditional and the modern matte style,I regard
them as being almost 2 hobbys under the same umbrella

Hi Vandilay,

I do have some Lancers a Life Guard and a Hussar to keep him safe while he is doing his reconniassance of the Battlefield. I'll post some shots for you guys to see later after I put the kids to bed. I am also thinking of posting a comparison shot of him with Lord Kitchener from the Marlborough Durbar Line so I will be fooling with the camera a bit tonight. Do you have any older sets?

I have the Imperial in the top photo. For me Imperial was the best.

I have several sets of Imperial's too. I just wish I had had more time to get some of their other sets. I would so love to get the Heirloom sets. Ah the thrill of the hunt and of course the agony of defeat when you get out bid at the last second.

Gentle Friends,

I think this is one of the best threads that has appeared on this forum for some time. The figures in these pictures make my heart pound! I would encourage all of you to post some more pictures, but I fear my heart could not take large doses of these wonderful figures!

Great stuff!!!!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat ;)

Hi Again Guys,

Here's a picture of the small band of Hollow Cast Vintage Troopers guarding their General.

The royal scots marching and Gordon Highlanders
I have included a few more shots of my britains and imperial figures.
The britains hollowcast set I would love to get is an old gun team with outriders.
