These are Britains recasts I'm painting. They are Eygyptian infantry based on the King's African Rifles casting. I saw the Eygyptian set on James Opie's website and like the way looked

Dear new friends......I have seen the light and it is the sun shining off of the glossy finishes of my new old style toy soldiers. I have decided to throw off the shackles of the grit and matte of present offerings and devote the rest of my life to the pursuit of color and true brightness....And so ,after buying Wessex 17th Lancers for the Zulu War, and 2 sets of Britain like remakes for Napoleonics, I am on my way back to the memories of my youth....My Zulu War collection will now be changed over to the look and finish of the old style, while my Nappys will be a mix of the scale in both gloss and matte. Who knows where this will lead me in the totality of my future purchases, but for now, I am content. Thanks,Michael Am looking for links to old style painted soldiers, not so much the olde stuff, but the newer remakes and repaints .......

More Imperial, French Marines. Dave I know you started this thread as Britains hollow cast. It kind of morphed into any type traditional toy soldier.

I know what you mean. I waffle between gloss and matte but gloss is definitely my favorite. I'm not sure how to provide links. I'm sure someone will help you out.

I don't have pics at the moment but I have some of the very early Boer War and Japanese Britians soldiers. They have the oval based with paper labels dating them 1904. They are wonderful little pieces of history.

Would love to see photos if you get the chance.
