Britains Early Hollow Cast (1 Viewer)

I love seeing all the Imperial Productions pictures. Imperial is still my all-time favorite line. To think that it all started with David Cowe making figures for his own children. What a talented man. Sure wish they were still in production.

Shannon I agree with you. Imperial is my favorite too. the painting on them is incredible. I wish they were in production too. I keep hoping someone in the family will take over the business.

Hi Guys,

Wow there are some really great looking old and traditional style soldiers out there! It makes me feel good to see so many of you are into the traditional ones as well as the modern issues. I am really enjoying the Imperials and if Gideon has a sec or two I hope he takes some pictures of the old oval based Britains he has because I am sure there are a lot of folks out there that would love to see them. The next two pictures are a mixed set of Gordons and an un-identifiable fusilier or guard I have picked up here and there and the Gurkhas are some I have been painting from Castings you used to be able to buy from the WBritains Collectors Club. I picked up 22 of them and right now I am painting the 2d Gurkhas with an officer to march in my Durbar display and I am painting some others to represent other regiments. I hope you enjoy them too.

All the best

Dave

I believe their was talk of that at one stage ,but i guess it would
have happened by now if it was going to.Their sign is still up
pointing to the little shop in greytown.
Just nothing in it unfortunatly.

Hi Rob,

Who are the lLight Horse by? I would very much like to get some of those!

The others are also great!

Dave

Hi Dave
They are made by 'soldiers of the world' the range is owned and designed in
the US and made in Greytown [a stones throw from imperial]
Realy nicely painted ,up with the best i have seen.
Here is a couple of sites in the states www.thetoysoldiergallery.com [the owners of the range ] or www.stockademiniatures.com
cheers Rob

Dear new friends......I have seen the light and it is the sun shining off of the glossy finishes of my new old style toy soldiers. I have decided to throw off the shackles of the grit and matte of present offerings and devote the rest of my life to the pursuit of color and true brightness....And so ,after buying Wessex 17th Lancers for the Zulu War, and 2 sets of Britain like remakes for Napoleonics, I am on my way back to the memories of my youth....My Zulu War collection will now be changed over to the look and finish of the old style, while my Nappys will be a mix of the scale in both gloss and matte. Who knows where this will lead me in the totality of my future purchases, but for now, I am content. Thanks,Michael Am looking for links to old style painted soldiers, not so much the olde stuff, but the newer remakes and repaints .......

If you like the Wessex range by Andrew Rose you should try out Dorset Soldiers (painted sets and castings), SoldierPac (castings) and Glebe Miniatures (both) these are in the uk and are in the style of the old Britains Hollowcast.

These sets below are from SoldierPac recasts and painted by myself (and my wife!).

Dear Jeff, my eyes and hands will no longer allow me the detail painting of my youth and other than touch up, I will have to stay with pre painted figures. I miss the talent you still have and is lost from me..........Michael

Hi Michael.

Both Dorset Soldiers and Glebe Miniatures carry full ranges of pre painted sets in the old traditional style. I haven't painted any figures for a few years now.....kind of miss it.

Regards Jeff

Thanks for the link. Just checking out the Napoleonics; man they have a lot of sets and not just the usual stuff. I'll have to check them out.

I saw three sets at the Westcoaster. Each set had four figures, your officer anothe similar officer only on a white horse, a figure that looked like an aide and a fourth figure also an aide except he had a plume. All were mounted, and boxed. Two boxes were red cardboard, 50's version price range $220. $230. The othe set was similar except in an earlier box Price $425. Set was first made 1920. James Opie's The Great Book of Britains page 188 has a good color picture. Hope this helps. Tom

Ok, since I figured out how post photos I'm having fun. Here's some Tradition castings I just got done painting.

Did you see a lot of old Britains at the Westcoaster?
Looking at your forum name, was wondering if you're from Hilo HI?
