Britain's Zulu War (4 Viewers)

Keep in mind guys that I wanted to get cattle just like in the movie... And they're all the same color in the movie, which is incorrect. The breed Nguni is the ancestral lineage of the Zulu cattle, as pictured. A smatering of anything 1:32 or 54mm that you can get your hands on should work! Look at the first photo; Can you see the different regimental shields, including royal white?
Mike

You do have a in-depth knowledge on the subject.

That's why I collected a bunch of Scottish Highland cattle to represent native Southern African cattle. I'm just merely interested in the whole affair , and LOVE IT!!!! Where else can you mix history, geography, biology , sociology, political science, engineering, math (if you want to count the size of your collection) beside toy soldiers? Mike

Still playing........The Lt.

Here is a horrible picture of some of my Britains Highland and other breed cattle t6hat I thought would work for the period of Zulu (based on the movie). Boy was I wrong. The front two pack oxen are by Brad Ledger of Canada. Mike

That's quite the herd Mike. The highland cattle have always been a favourite of mine. Can I ask about Brad Ledger, is he still in business and if so do you have any contact info?

Brad is a prolific caster /painter in your nek of the woods, Scott. His callsign on ebay is bfledger He uses Tradition castings and does a matte finish.

I see some of you on here would very much like to see the artillery crew including limbers etc from iSandlwana and a little bird has told me that it is in the pipeline.

How about these little legion cattle? They are metal. They come as part of set z/137 - colonial wagon on the march - but they come in a separate box to the rest of the set - so I am sure they can be ordered separately.

Cool the 999th, thank you for sharing them with us.

Looks like they would go great with the WB glossy Zulus. Just need some matte ones now :D

Thanks for the tip on the LL. Haven't seen them in a while. I'm still waiting for the Natal Carbineer horse handler I ordered a month ago. These cattle are very close to the Nguni type that we all need a herd of! Mike

Hey, nice looking cattle. Those should do nicely. You could consider attempting to apply a coat of matte varnish, though I'm not sure how that turns out over gloss finishes. Perhaps one of our resident paint experts can speak to this. I might even consider looking at this option if it is doable.

Also, thought I'd pose my latest pick-ups. The rest of my guys are still packed away in boxes, but I've gotten these since arriving at the new house so they are handy and happy to pose for a group shot. Looking good I think. :)

Cheers,
Dave

Dave KRYLON provides a Matte Finish Spray 1311 which I'm sure it'll work nicely it was used on my Trophy Gatling Gun Set Figures and a set of Zulus, they look look great. I've plans to redo some of my glossy Kit figures and will provide photos when I get them done. Nice addition to your Land of The Zulus.........The Lt.

Well there you have it. Thanks for answering our question, Lt. I think I remember seeing the gatling gun set when you posted it a while ago now that you mention it. :)

I have this Little Legion set these are oxen as oxen were used for themost part to pull wagons in the Zulu War. However, they are glossy and could fit in as cattle except for the huge hump on the back.
