Mentioned to me today and below from one of the recent online articles about it :

"The founding member of the elite British Special Air Service (SAS) during World War II will be portrayed in a new television series starring actor Tom Hardy.

Hardy will portray Lt. Col. Blair “Paddy” Mayne, who was among the unit’s 100 founding members in 1941, and the series will feature the SAS’ operations against Axis troops from 1941 to 1943 in North Africa, the London Timesreported.

The series is focused on the 2016 book “SAS: Rogue Heroes” written by British journalist Ben Macintyre, who used a 500-page archive of events recorded by SAS members.

Screenwriter Steven Knight, who also created popular British television series “Peaky Blinders” that also featured Hardy, will be writing the SAS series".

Great character for Hardy to do. Mayne got 4 DSO's and his speciality was the behind the lines raids shooting up German airfields.

Big fan of Tom Hardy and this series will make up for any disappointment I will have if he is not the next Bond.

Great idea for a TV series...I read the book a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it...

Who needs super hero fantasy when you can have real blokes in real situations performing amazing battlefield feats!!!
Andy.

Here is how it should go {sm4}

Series 1 - SAS 1941-1943 set in N Africa
Series 2 - SAS 1943-1945 set in Europe and ends with the after the war traffic accident involving Mayne. However prior to his accident a mysterious Englishman enters the bar where Mayne is apparently drinking. Note I say "apparently".
Series 3 - 1950's - 1960's set all around the world. after faking the traffic accident and English accent training Mayne becomes a MI 6 agent with a licence to kill. By co-incidence licence No 007.

Hey presto, Tom Hardy becomes Bond ^&grin
