Building a Sudan Gunboat (2 Viewers)

Is this vessel intended for 1/32 scale?

It will be for height and aprox. width, but the length will be logistically shortened, to fit most members needs..Obviously, anyone can take my instructions and wander off the reservation to whatever size they wish. Just extend my measures and the ship will still look fine..An actual 1/32 version of this ship would be about 4', but I am stopping at about 2 1/2'...Michael

I'm with ya but as far as playing with it goes it will be 1/32. HeeHee.

Michael, It is really good to see how you use ordinary items for your projects. Really comes in handy when your tools are elsewhere. Looking forward to further installments

IIIII'M BACK! I started to build this ship and as I experimented with new modeling techniques, I could not present my efforts to you, till I was sure how best to proceed. First you need to cut out the pointed bow and a rounded stern from your 24'" plank. I then bought very thin basswood sheets that I cut in plates and bent and glued around the plank edge. I chose to cut in about 2.5" high strips. I bought basswood strips to glue inside the walls above deck as well as added small strips as a top edging...Because I could not get the thicker inner strips to bend much, I used the thin basswood to form up and shape the inside of the bow section..I took me about 6 such strips to thicken the bow insides. I then bought small rhinesones and glued them to thin strips of basswood. I trimmed to fit as rivet sections to the hull. I believe that this allows for more detail and makes the ship look like metal....Michael

Looks very good Michael.
Could we have some more detailled pictures of the hull ?
Thanks, Michel

That looks incredible Michael!

I'm with Michel, any chance of close ups of the hull, especially around the bow.

Really professional job. :)

Simon

Attached are some up close views of the bow, with commentary...Get the magnifying glass out. Bad camera, primitive image resizing program to fit into forum reqirements..Michael

Prost!
Brad

Many thanks Michael.
Some great ideas that will certainly prooved useful in sometimes as in too many ideas I've in mind, one is also about a Sudan gunboat, probably the Melik( too many ideas compared to the little time I have to implement them:()
Cheers, Michel

With some of the new building techniques that I am now using, I am positive that I could build a reasonable model of just about any ship, out there, keeping it in a 24" - 30" x 5" footprint...Having made a ACW Tinclad, I am leaning toward a turreted ironclad next. Michael

WooHooo.......:pLooking forward to the latest from our resident shipbuilder:)

The ship hull has now been painted white and then glossed. I paint by hand, as I am not good with spray can..

Did you Michaels note that we are the creative guys in this forum. That we are mor likely to make things from scratch or what we have laying around. Hobby shops and craft stores are 2nd homes to us?????

Michael,
That's some work ! I guess your next post will be in some days :)
Do you think it works better than a large piece of wood with the planks details pressed in it with a tool ?
Thanks for your advice.
Michel
