Building a Sudan Gunboat (1 Viewer)

Michael,
That's some work ! I guess your next post will be in some days :)
Do you think it works better than a large piece of wood with the planks details pressed in it with a tool ?
Thanks for your advice.
Michel

I have thought of that, as well as looked at premade oak floor mats offered in the dollhouse/miniatures market. I believe prefabbed plastic flooring might also be found in the O-guage train market ..Having said that, I have cases of popsicle sticks arround, cheap..The beauty about watching me build is that some of you folks ,with real tool skills, can think about faster and better ways to do something and thus I learn also..Each ship I build turns out better than the previous, because I am always playing with new techniques. Also, as to the floor ,I will have it done by the weekend, layed, stained, amd glossed..I will also show you how to make maxim MG and deck guns from wood bits......This is all about building on a budget, after all...:D..Michael

Did you Michaels note that we are the creative guys in this forum. That we are mor likely to make things from scratch or what we have laying around. Hobby shops and craft stores are 2nd homes to us?????

Is there any non-Mikes on this thread?
Mike

The ship hull has now been painted white and then glossed. I paint by hand, as I am not good with spray can..

THIS IS COMING OUT GREAT!
I thought I had a good imagination using odd pieces to create things but you might be the king! lol:D
Great job my friend.

Cool! :cool::D
My son is a Michael, so even if I don't make the club, I could still be an affiliate member!

I have been working feverishly on this ship and I will give you a part of the procedure now...Shown will be :

1) The finished deck..Popsicle sticks glued in place, painted light yellow, painted with an oak paint wash ( to make it look like a stain ), then heavy glossed...

2) Also shown are sandbags make from foam peanuts, woodglued together, and painted a desert yellow...rear view of the ship

3)The next deck is a thicker balsa wood sheet, cut for fit..Thin, wooden dowels are cut for posts and glued in place ,as supports..These are painted white as well as the deck trim..

4)Same as main deck, painted light yellow, painted with an oak paint wash ( to make it look like a stain ), then heavy glossed...

Next time, the upper works and cabin detail...

Michael

Will do my best, but my camera is what it is. A new idiot proof camera will be on my Christmas list, if all you " MIKES "were wondering what to get me..:pMichael

Looks really good, Mike! Your finish on the decking fooled my eye, until I read your description. Honestly, I thought you had salvaged a piece of wood from a school desk chair or some similar source, it looks so smooth and uniform. A really great project.

I may have missed this in an earlier post-what did you use to make the boilers at the aft end of the deck?

Prost!
Brad
