After seeing the amazing King & Country’s D Day Minus One display at last year’s Chicago show I wanted to add the C 47 to my collection. After much discussion with Andy I settled on a flying version with the jump door open. I wanted to hang the plane from the ceiling of my home office with paratroopers behind. The plane is modeled after one used by the 82nd Airborne. Andy and his team did a wonderful job with the airplane and modeling the open doorway and interior.

The model took about 6 months to make and arrived at the end of May. It took me sometime to figure out how to display the plane with the paratroopers while safely securing everything from the ceiling. Ideally, I wanted three jumpers but was only able to fit two.

So just ahead of this year’s Chicago show I thought I would post some photos of my C 47.

Is the plane metal or wood? If the latter, I wouldn't hang it the way you have done, without some support.

Definitely worth the wait. Love the shot of the plane on the tilt. The chutes are well positioned. For me I would consider putting a figure in the doorway about to jump, that is if he fits, minus the chute of course. Not many will ever have this wonderful plane nor the excellent display. Robin.

I hope not mate ^&grin^&grin

A great display mate congrats on a great purchase.

Nice bird and great way to display it with the parachutists behind. Hopefully you won't have any issues displaying the bird that way.

OK. Now, you are making me very envious. I have the parachutists and have dreamed of doing something like that. Beautiful display!

Your third post in seven yrs is fantastic. ^&grin Nice addition and display. Chris

Just a parachuter at the door of the plane would make this scene PERFECT :salute::

Thanks for all of the positive comments. A paratrooper at the door would be great. The C47 is 1:32 scale, any suggestions?

I agree a paratrooper at the door would look awesome. My only concern is would he stay there or free fall out the door and onto the floor! The weight of a figure plus the fact the bird is not fixed and rigid would mean he could topple out if the plane moves or tilts at a slight angle. So unless the figure is fixed in with glue, this would be my only concern. This is of course if he would fit in the doorway in the first place (with a base) as Gerry has pointed out, the bird is in 1:32 scale.

You might have to tack the base inside the model with a non-destructive adhesive.

or

Cut the figure off the base and attach it to acetate sheeting.
