Good Morning Treefrogers:

What happened to all the French & Indian War collectors and enthusiasts?
I know you are out there. Earlier this month I started a thread on the subject but am disappointed that there are so few folks contributing posts. There have been over 730 views of it so I know you're are looking at it. I know too that there are a number of John Jenkins collectors on the forum as well as Britains and Frontline. Come on guys we'd like to hear from you. Although the thread is under dioramas you don't need to have any to post. Here is what I said early on in the thread:

"All are welcome to this thread, even if you don't collect FIW. I consider the thread a full and open consideration of the FIW in all its apsects, as the Lt. has done with the Zulu War. As far as figures go, all scales and media are welcome from wargame size up through 12" action figures, plastic, metal, etc. manufactured or your own creations. News about new figures, books etc. on this subject are most certainly desirable posts for this thread. Posting pictures is not necessary--just an interest in the subject"

So come on FIWers wherever you are. This is the place to share info about those new figure releases(Britains, Jenkins, Frontline, etc.), books, history, museum visits, or anything else related to the subject. I don't want to be the only voice in the wilderness.

Randy

Randy: I am interested. I found some pictures of my re-enactment at Mackinac . I have to scan them and post it. I have the same figures that have been posted and not working on new stuff. I want to keep the thread going. John

Thanks John. You always have interesting pictures and things to say and there are lots of folks here who don't get to see or read them if they are not on other forums.

I am starting to collect Britains Redcoats and Bluecoats for this period, and I just love those glossy figures, so I'd like to stick with them. I am expecting anxiously what new releases will be coming up ( next catalog, please arrive fast:p ). I'd love to see canoes and French sets coming from Britains, and especially some French flags. In fact, what I'd like to see is what you see through this link: http://www.fusilier-miniatures.com/torder_cat.asp?lsSelect=NORTH+AM+FR+INDIAN+WARS&butSubmit=Go. But these are from Tommy Atkins and I do prefer Britains figures for this period. The Atkins figures are nice, and as you can see ( I hope you can see ), now have a fantastic range of poses and items but individually speaking I do prefer the Britains Redcoats/Bluecoats figures. May be I'll end up mixing them up, but really some Atkins figures, well, do have weird faces... Then again some do not...
Frontline's and J Jenkins' ranges seem excellent but I do prefer gloss for this period and do not have the room or the money for everything. I tend to buy ( or try to buy ) what I like, so I have WWI, WWII ( now resting for a long time ), ACW, Durbar, Napoleonics and some special Crimean sets. Talk about focus...
I'd love to come back to this thread to learn more about the FIW ( including toy soldiers ) and will try to find the time to read a good History book about it:rolleyes:.

Hi Randy,

Know that I am with you on this. I will soon be delving into this period not only with the figures but in educating myself on its history. I recently purchased a book on the FIW by Walter Borneman and I can't wait to get started on it. I, too, am dissappointed that hardly anyone has posted on that thread you started. There appears to be a hightened interest for this time period and war, that is judging from the latest releases from some of the manufacturers.

So let me echo your call and ask the others to post something that would advance everyone's desire to learn more about this subject.

Hi Randy
I admire your tenacity by trying to identify as well as invigorate interest amongst other frogger 18/19th century collectors. But I hate to say it but I believe you're going to be blowing in the wind as the vast majority who do regularly post on the forum only wear khaki/camoflague and ride AV's.

I gave up trying to generate good discussions/items of interest/articles on the ACW. True there are a few such as Pat/Vamp/Fubar and a few others but that's it, I therefore fear that the other ACW and now your FI fans are either extremely shy or wish to remain vigilantly silent here on the forum.

Like you Randy I now just post ACW dios and hope the "silent movie viewers" are finding them interesting even though they wouldn't dare comment either way.
Take heart Randy and keep posting your colourful shots.I for one look and thoroughly enjoy doing so and don't mind posting to tell you.
Reb.

Hey guys.....CHILL.
While I admit that I'm one of the Khaki guys, I also have interests in other time periods/ranges such as SOHK/IC, Ancient Egypt, Crimean War, Crusaders, Napoleonics and so on. I'm also interested in ACW and FIW although I don't collect these ranges.
In fact, I'm just gearing up to dip my toes in a completely new range/manufacturer/time period - new for me anyway.
Rest assured that just cos I like WWII doesn't mean that I don't like or appreciate the ranges and time periods that you guys collect, and I'm sure there are plenty of other WWII collectors who share the same sentiments as me.

Best Regards
H

I'm the most chilled guy on the forum you have to be living in the UK. I think you've slightly missed the point of definitely my post and maybe Randy's.
I know for sure a lot of WWII guys on the forum enjoy mine and Randy's dios and collections as a hell of a lot of you have posted many complimentary comments. But you khaki guys get real interesting discussions going on uniforms/decals/weapons/regiments/battles/commanders etc etc etc.

I have never seen a post from any other frogger referencing the above to the ACW if it does come up it inevetibly peters out after 3 replies. Your WWII discussions can go on for weeks. I would love the opportunity to get into that and I think that is also what Randy is referring to.

I too love the Britains Classics and plan on collecting all the FIW series. I cannot thank you enough for bringing my attention to the Tommy Atkins FIW series. The subject range is unbelievable. I plan to post pictures of some of them on the FIW thread to inspire others, especially Ken Osen from Britains whose sculpting talent is outstanding and made me, a matte collector, want to add his glossies to my collection.

Thank you so much for your support and encouragement and broadening the interests of a World War II collector.
Randy

Thank you Bob and Harry for your support. I agree we want to make our non WWII series as informative and as interesting as possible. I know there are FIW collectors on TF who post on the manufacturers' (of FIW) threads that can offer good content to an FIW thread. Like Bob says we truly appreciate the nice comments we get from all the members of the forum. You must remember too that the majority of my collecting has been WWII North Africa and the Bulge. I just happen to like exotic warfare situations and it was the Battle on Snowshoes that helped draw me into the FIW. I also am fascinated by the irregular combat techniques practiced by non-traditional units in 18th C North America as well as the colorful variety of uniforms. I especially love the exchange of Euro-American motifs and Native American ones in these uniforms and equipment. Basically my call today was motivated by my desire to not be the only poster on the thread, for I truly believe that "variety is the spice of life" and that we can learn a lot from each other.

Reb,

You're absolutely right. I find the dios from all, make for great viewing and do hope you continue. There is a lot of talent and imagination on this forum.

With regards to the discussion, I'm afraid I have to pull the ignorance card. I know so little about the era , that what I know on the subject, is what is posted here.
Please take some small conscilation in knowing that you're broadening my (and I dare say, other collector's) knowledge base, bit by bit.

Cheers
Simon

Agree with Simon - for a change;) - you are educating us, thanks and keep it up.:) I have read a little about this period, but not enough to comment on this kind of thing.

To be honest though, I have read a great deal about WW2, but the uniforms etc was never one of my things, so it is also terrific to read Gary's and others posts on the detailed stuff......

CIVIL WAR THREAD POSTED IN HISTORICAL DISSCUSSION THREAD ! :)

And I love the French and Indian War as well - not well read on it as the Civil War - but, find it very interesting ! :D

What ever else you do Randy don't stop or give up and that goes for you to Reb. I'm sure Kevin will agree with me that it's taken time for the Diorama Forum to get to where it is today. You'll note prior to what's happening today the main posting in the section was done in The Bored Section of the forum and if it wasn't for Carlos who started it along with Kevin and a few others little or no interest would have been shown. Kevin's gone from posting some of the finest pictures to now providing us with some great historical background of the Bluge and Arnhem and look what the UK Rebs been doing. We've got Pat not only posting pictures but telling some well thought out stories and even got the Kilted Vampire hooked and let me not forget the double F's Fish and Fubar who also brought us loads of pleasure. So let's just keep up the great work and continuing to bring the pleasure of the photos and storys for us to continue to enjoy. That's The Lt.'s two cents for the day. Happy posting Ya'll.......Joe.

Thanks Bob.
I know what you mean about being the most chilled guy on the forum - brass monkeys are an endangered species here in North China at the moment as well....Brrrr..!!!
As I know you're aware, I was expressing my personal support for you and Randy's choices of miniature figurine ranges. Even though I don't collect these myself, there's no denying their visual and asthetic appeal. I don't know what the answer to your point about kick starting discussion might be though. In common with Kevin and Simon, I don't know enough about ACW or FIW to be able to contribute in any meaningful way - but I do enjoy reading the posts from more knowledgable TF members on these two time periods (and AWI as well). So please, keep up the good fight.
Cheers

Hi Randy the reason I collect FIW is because of the pictures you post when I started seeing them I went off. Bought everything Jenkins I could find now looking at Frontline it has become my favorite time period the more I read about it. Keep posting the awsome pictures!

Glad the pictures inspired you. Although you may not collect glossy you should also look at the Britains FIW line, especially the Royal Artillery set. I have been a matte collector but these are so good I am trying to collect the entire Britains series.

Thank you for your list of recommendations for readings. There is also 5 hour mini-series on the Last of the Mohicans which is very well done.
