On July 2nd, 1863, 149 years ago today, roughly around this time EST, hearing the roar of muskets indicating the attack on Culp's Hill had begun, Confederates under the command of Hays and Avery launched an attack on Cemetery Hill/East Cemetery Hill.....

Under Hayes, the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th LA, including the famed "Louisiana Tiger" Zouaves, attacked towards the far end of East Cemetery Hill, while Avery and his 6th, 21st and 57th NC struck towards near end of the hill.........................

Another winner George . . . . just marvelous to look at . . . .

Union forces had dug numerous artillery redoubts for protection and the base of the hill was defended by regiments from MA, CT, NY and PA; on the far right of the position there was a hill named Stevens Knoll, it was manned by the famed "Iron Brigade"..........

The regiments from North Carlina drove some of the Union troops away from the road at the base of the hill, but fresh troops stepped in to hold the line while fire rained down from Stevens Knoll to stall the attack......

Meanwhile, the Tigers under Hayes drove back the 25th and 107th OH and continued up the hill, towards the battery commanded by Wiedrich; the Tigers stormed into the redoubts and the fighting was hand to hand as darkness approached.............

Union support advanced towards the Tigers and the attack stalled; with no supporting regiments approaching to assist the Tigers, the attack failed.................

Thanks Mike; as you can fully understand, sometimes these things come together great and you are happy with the end result, other times about halfway through the process things just aren't working so the whole project gets scrapped.

This one falls in the former catagory IMO, it came together well..............

Yet another stunner of a display and a darn good history lesson to boot.

Now if only Ewell and Longstreet had co-ordinated both their attacks on that second day.

Yet another what if from the Battle of Gettysburg?

Love the sheer, massive size of this display and the huge number of troops involved. Something very majestic about the sweeping, uphill advance of the lines of infantry. -- Al

Thanks Rob; even though this is not your scale, I am glad you can appreciate it.

I have you to thank for sparking my interest in the ACW again with that discussion you started concerning LRT.

Cemetery Hill has a lot of what if's associated with it as well, this area of the battlefield holds great interest for me......

Bob,
Thanks for the feedback, glad you like it............yet another what if indeed.

One of the things I've always wondered is why didn't A.P. Hill attack the other side of Cemetery Hill at the same time that Hayes and Avery did; his men were in position to, why they didn't is a mystery to me, might have very well carried the day if they had........

Thanks Al, a couple of paintings I saw recently inspired this one and like you said, the sweeping, uphill advance really pops on this one..................

Thanks Jeff, my Confederate collection is all in on this one, close to 1,500 figures, just about all of my Union troops as well, holding back all of the Zouaves as none were on this end of the battlefield except for the 84th NY/14th Brooklyn, they were stationed on Culp's Hill............

George

Are some of your guys carrying regimental flags in this dio and indeed the others you have posted prior-if so where did you get them and do they do 54mm versions

Bob,
A friend of mine here in the states owns a company called "The Flag Dude", that is where I purchased the flags you mentioned.

His flags are spectacular, without a doubt the best flags I've ever seen anywhere in any scale. He makes flags in every scale, from 6mm to 54mm, David Marshall from TM Terrain used to carry his flags, not sure if he still does or not.

He can do any flag from any time period, shoot me an email and I'll forward his contact information along to you, he's been trying to break into the 54mm scale market..............
