Chaffee Tanks Retired????? (1 Viewer)

I see what you mean, the more detailed tracks with no clutter, the more fragile they become. Perhaps if the tracks/wheels were cast as a unit from white metal and fixed to the chassis this might overcome the problem?

Jeff

At least the new tank crew that is being released has a mechanic with a tool box to fix the tracks.

It could be no more than a bad batch of polystone ,used to make this tank..As for me, Boots ( Fred ) gave me a totally trashed winter Chaffee with one whole side of tracks wiped out. I rebuilt them from the bits and filler putty to make it look like new...and I have a Olive version that was perfect...So go figure..Michael

Give the man a cigar, he wins the prize.

I recall some time ago collectors wishing Andy could do tracks similiar to Honour Bounds, ie, with no clutter, designed so one could see clear through them.

This is the result, the tracks are fragile with less stability (ie, the clutter gave the tracks stability) being the main reason why, has nothing to do with quality control at K & C, theirs is top notch in my book, speaking as a dealer who handles hundreds of units a month with minimal breakage.

Honour Bound casts their tracks out of metal, not resin. Metal is heavier, which means shipping costs go through the roof.

We as dealers were sent replacement tanks for the winter version of this tank, not sure why the summer version is coming through damaged as well. There was some sort of issue with the winter versions, not the summer one. I had a couple winter versions that were damaged, easily replaced thanks to K & C.

As the old saying goes "Be careful what you wish for"................

Do you have a problem or are you just asking, for idle curiosity, if anyone has had one?

Actually, I had a machine gun problem. The mounted gun inside the front hull of the tank was broken. I managed to repair it with some invisible cement, rather than send it back. The tracks were perfect.

I have bought Five Honour Bound tanks so far, and NONE have metal tracks, they look like resin to me.

I have Eleven K & C Tracked vehicles so far and would not have paid money for ANY if K & C had not made a commitment to better track detail.

Personally I haven't encountered ANY track breakage problems with K & C, Honour Bound or Figarti having recently bought their Winter Mark IV.

However I have encountered some NON tracks issues with K & C such as broken headlights on my Panzer Meyer Halftrack and more recently a broken off elevating wheel from the new tracked 88 mm Gun. As both of these MAY have occurred when I lifted the items from their foam packaging I took it upon myself to fix the breakages myself with some two part epoxy glue rather than hassle my dealer about them.

One ISSUE that I do have with K & C is that MOST of my recent purchases have had dented boxes and I suspect their cardboard is now rather THIN compared to other manufacturers - beef up those boxes please Andy.

Its funny, I have north of 200 K&C polystone vehicles, and the only breakage problem I ever had was with one of the first two I ever bought (the original Iwo Sherman arrived with a broken track). I love the new track detail!

I got both versions of the Chaffee in, no breakage, thanks TF. Man there heavier than I though, I'm liking this.

I heard the piece was very delicate. Thats the reason and Andy has more things coming out later this year for D-Day and Battle of The Budlge.
