Chicago show 2017 (2 Viewers)

The show is pretty far from the closest airport, which is O'Hare. There is a limousine company that you can order a car and get a much better rate than you can get from taxis at the airport. I believe the information has been posted on previous Chicago Show Threads by good friends Steven Chong and Brad Lewin (Jazzeum).

The best place to stay is the Hyatt Regency Chaumburg, which is where the show, and all of the preceding room trading, takes place.

The show itself is only Sunday, but that is the anticlimax. The heart of the fun at the OTSN is the room trading, which starts on Wednesday, and goes until Saturday. Many of the best bargains and rarest items change hands as peopel explore the maze of rooms open for browsing and selling on the 4th and 5th floors of the hotel. Many of the manufacturers, including King & Country, William Britains, John Jenkins Designs, etc., have rooms from Wednesday on, which are open most hours of the day and into the evening, where you can meet the manufacturers, pre-view the products, and see special dioramas made for the show. There is a lot of good fellowship, with people meeting for drinks and meals, and getting to see old friends or put faces to names on this forum.

There are many good places to eat. Chicago Style deep dish pizza at Lou Magnotti's, Chicago style Hot Dogs, steak houses, even trips into Chicago proper for really good meals at Carson's Ribs or Shula's steak house sometimes take place.

I hope this answers your questions.:smile2:

Thank you thank you for all the information!! I understand that you can buy toy soldiers via the room trading process, can you also buy on the show floor on Sunday?
and last question does First Legion have a strong presence at the show (retired figures plus new ones)?

On Sunday you have the dealers who participated in the room trading plus some local dealers who don't. The dealers don't bring all their stock with them so you may not find all the new FL you wish to purchase. As for retired FL, you may. Finding retired items of any manufacturer is what many go to the show for. However, don't make that your prime objective or you may be disappointed. One of the pluses of the Show is meeting other collectors and making new friends.

Gentle Friends,

My good wife, Diane, and I are planning to attend the show. We will be arriving mid- to late Thursday afternoon. I look forward to seeing everyone there!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

Great news, I always enjoy our conversations; I'll make sure to pack my Oklahoma Sooners shirts too..............:wink2:

I should be mad at Pat; he interested me in Medallion Miniatures, an expensive vice {eek3}

Hi Brad,

WHAT!!! You are no longer angry with me? Well, that is what the Medallion Miniatures do for you. Once you have one, you cannot be angry toward anyone (for a while.) :)

I am looking forward to seeing you and George at the show, especially since George is going to wear his Sooner shirt. ^&grin

See you guys in a few short weeks!

Warmest personal regards,

Pat :)

OTSN less than 2 months away and no talk about it. Unless I missed something I know of no dealer, manufacterer or anyone else announcing a new product for the show. Hate to say it but could this be the begining of the end? Have to admit in years past I would already be counting the days, not this year. Got lucky in as much I have enough hotel points (LaQuinta) that I can stay 2 nights for free. So my cost will be gas ($60) & a few meals ($60). Can we get a roll call in regards to attendance?
Gary

gary you have to start looking on the positive side of things. one your are still with the living, two -there are still toy soldiers being made and three- there is a lot of good company to enjoy at the show. as for myself I have Thursday thru sunday off and planned to attend but now there is a memorial service that Friday at the air force academy for those grads who have fallen in the last year so I will have to attend that. I still might find a way to fly out of chicago so I can go to the show Thursday or sunday

Have to say I agree with 'Hawkeye'...The 'Chicago Show' is GREAT...and not one to miss!

As a collector and a producer K&C will be showing quite a number of brand-new and upcoming items as well as existing and even some older items in brand-new specially designed displays and dioramas.

A lot of blood, sweat and tears goes into running and operating any kind of a hobby Show (believe me I know) but it's all worth it when you get to meet your collectors and many old friends...and make some new ones too.

PLUS, you get to see the amazing and incredible scope and variety of what this terrific hobby of ours has to offer...morning, noon and night. Sure you can see some of that on the Internet but not ALL of it and you get to connect with fellow collectors on a human, personal level... not just remotely and electronically.

A month from now I will be there...I hope some of you will be there too!
"Viva Chicago!"
Best wishes and happy collecting, Andy.

My amazing wife surprised me with first class tickets to the show, to help me travel comfortably with my back. I may be walking with a cane, but I will be walking the halls of the OTSN. Look forward to seeing you all!

Louis,

Now that's the way to roll!

John from Texas

John,

It's my first time flying first class. I got a free upgrade to first class once years ago, when they overbooked a flight and I was willing to take a later flight, but this was before my accident, and there was a handicapped gentleman whose seats were in the back of the plane, so I switched with him. I'm glad to see you, Carlos, Michael and the rest of our Texas contingent made it safely through that hurricane.

As in keeping my mouth and typing quiet as to not jinx myself I got my hotel booked months ago at the Hyatt and today my airfare!! will be at the show Fri-Monday, hopefully no sickness, death will affect me in the next 3-4 weeks :) see y'all soon.

As much as I would like to attend I do not think I can (or should).

I have been in California for the past month tending to my ailing father. I missed my wedding anniversary and I left my wife all alone to ride out Hurricane Harvey. I will finally get home this Thursday. I think going to the Chicago Show (or even mentioning going) would be GFD, also known as grounds for divorce.

Totally understand your 'delicate' position, Jason...Although we will miss you in Chicago as part of the 'K&C Crew'...Chris and myself will be in San Antonio after the show for a few days...Maybe we can get together for a brew or a meal (or preferably both) down in the 'Alamo City'..?
Aye yours, Andy.
P.S. All the best to Patti and your Mum and Dad.

Andy:

Thanks for the well wishes.

I will be home until October 7, unless things change with my Dad.

I will email you with more details.

Have a great show.

Best,
Jason
