We have to get Mike Miller to come back this year, he was the straw that stirred the drink that year...........................

Not in the cards for me this year :(

Sorry to hear you won't make it 'Sahara'...It's one of the major hilights of my toy soldier Year and I'm already looking forward to it...'Chicago' is toy soldiers galore...and a whole lot more!

But remember there's always next year...All the best and happy collecting! Andy.

Hahah!!! They love my loitering bc it's always preceded by a $10iced coffee from the lobby Starbucks!!!!
I swear I spend more there then on toy soldiers that weekend!

Good to know; you'll be busy in the TFT room, myself and Zach will be roaming the halls buying all the good stuff...................good luck buddy................:wink2:

George leaving his room during selling hours?????? DOUBTFUL ^&grin

And on a Toy Soldier related 'news' note for the Show -- I have been chatting with John Jenkins for several months on this year's Treasure Hunt. SO no matter what there will be some cool prototypes to come and find in 10 places within the Hyatt at least!
Tim Tyler is a floating loose cannon and finding me is like a needle in a haystack, right??? :eek:

Focusing on the FUN for the moment until reality sets in and crunch time starts {sm2}

No kidding! My wife is happy as it cuts down on what I bring home!

As I've now booked my tickets and room, I will be there.

I was cautiously optimistic about attendance this year but alas, my 11 year old received an invite yesterday afternoon to tryout for a baseball team that competes at the national level. So, while I will have to pass again this year, it is for all the right reasons. I will get there one day- perhaps he can send me when he pens his contract with the Pirates!!! :p:tongue:

And if you guys piss and moan about the costs of toy soldiers- the sticker shock on this team and it's proposed tournaments might result in a second mortgage!!! {sm4}

I should have gotten into the youth sports racket years ago!!!!

I wish all of you going a safe and trouble free journey and look forward to reading all the After Action reports and the photos of the troopers and the buffoonery!!! {sm3}

Great if the folks that have been to the show before provide info to us new folks:

. Distance from airport
. Best place to stay
. Duration of the show
. Good places to eat

I am sure that I can find most of the above on the shows website but noting beats experience...

Is the show for just one day?

The show is pretty far from the closest airport, which is O'Hare. There is a limousine company that you can order a car and get a much better rate than you can get from taxis at the airport. I believe the information has been posted on previous Chicago Show Threads by good friends Steven Chong and Brad Lewin (Jazzeum).

The best place to stay is the Hyatt Regency Chaumburg, which is where the show, and all of the preceding room trading, takes place.

The show itself is only Sunday, but that is the anticlimax. The heart of the fun at the OTSN is the room trading, which starts on Wednesday, and goes until Saturday. Many of the best bargains and rarest items change hands as peopel explore the maze of rooms open for browsing and selling on the 4th and 5th floors of the hotel. Many of the manufacturers, including King & Country, William Britains, John Jenkins Designs, etc., have rooms from Wednesday on, which are open most hours of the day and into the evening, where you can meet the manufacturers, pre-view the products, and see special dioramas made for the show. There is a lot of good fellowship, with people meeting for drinks and meals, and getting to see old friends or put faces to names on this forum.

There are many good places to eat. Chicago Style deep dish pizza at Lou Magnotti's, Chicago style Hot Dogs, steak houses, even trips into Chicago proper for really good meals at Carson's Ribs or Shula's steak house sometimes take place.

I hope this answers your questions.:smile2:

Good luck to your son! Hopefully you and your lovely wife can attend the second Annual Lawrence Lo Memorial Symposium in March, and we can catch up then.:smile2:

Louis beat me to it so not much to add. The cab company is Viatas.

One thing I hear people ask is how much money should I bring and my answer is it all depends on what you're looking to purchase. For example, if you plan to buy Russian figures, bring lots of $$$$! Whatever you decide to bring, try to stick to it. Worse to worse there's a cash machine in the Hotel and a Bank of America across the street.
