Chicago Show inquiry (1 Viewer)

Well I made the reservation. I'll be there this year, 1st time ever so I'm expecting great things from all the hype I always hear. The best part about it is my reservation is at my sister and brother-in-laws place in Naperville. Haven't mapped it out yet but I don't think it will be that far of a drive from their place to the show.
No, you're in luck, it's 20 to 25 miles but all expressway driving, having 53 almost next door to the hotel will help a lot.

20 to 25 miles isn't bad as long as it translates into a minute per mile. Hopefully there will be less traffic but who am I kidding its Chicago. I was gonna make reservations at a hotel but my Sister was offended that I wasn't staying with them so I caved. The way I look at it is yes I'll be a little further out but the money I saved due staying at my sisters can go directly to my soldier budget. Any tips on parking? Should I just buy a parking pass before I go?

As long as you avoid the heavy rush hours you should be just fine, it's pretty smooth sailing, unless there is heavy construction going on and when isn't there? Unless things have changed parking is free at the hotel, crowded sometimes but free.

This will be my first Toy Soldier Show as well! Def. looking forward to it!

Hope the weather cooperates with my travel plans!

Don't worry if you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes it will change, this is Chicago.

That begs the question what the choice is: down-pour, flood, sleet, tornado, hurricane, End of the World. Did I forget something? :D:p

Weather is immaterial for the OTSN show - no need to go outside....

Could be all of them, you just never know. Yes, you did forget blizzard, unlikely, but possible.

Pieces of information I am still looking for, are:

(i) List of Restaurants that do not cost an arm and a leg (I will have left those at the dealers and supplies are limited since my children moved out); and
(ii) a reliable list of the dealers with room numbers.

Who can help? The list of (ii) on the website is from 2007.

The main entrance is on Golf Road, there are many restaurants on Golf, across the street is an Olive Garden, aorund the corner is Joe's Crab Shack, about a mile west is Red Lobster and Golf has many other restaurants and fast food joints.

I don't think the room numbers have been assigned yet, but I could be wrong.

Many people like Portillo's down the street a bit.. Great Italian Beefs, Hot Dogs, etc. Like Ed said, many choices from usual fast food to more expensive.. Several choices in the mall across the street and there's also a Panera Bread in walking distance, etc...

Andanna,

I always found that there was never enough time for eating and if you go to the K & C and/or Figarti events, you're covered for Friday:) Chicago is a great restaurant town but I don't think you'll have the time.

As far as room assignments go, those don't usually change much year to year. Anyway, when you ge there, on the fourth or fifth floors, where most of the action is, if you get there early enough, there should be a map.

Finding a place to eat that fits your budget will not be a problem, I think finding the time to eat might be.

If you like hot wings Hooters is right down the road a bit.

I am one of the lucky ones, about 20 minutes from the show. So, I do not have to budget travel and food. More for toy soldiers.:D

If anyone has the time, Cantigny Park would be worth the trip.

Sounds like this has been covered already, but there are plenty of places to eat in either direction off off Golf Road.

As far as room numbers, the show promoter does an excellent job of keeping us in the same rooms from year to year.

That said, I've been in 5340 and 5342 since Andy moved out of them; I used to be across the hall, but needed two connecting rooms to display all of my merchandise...............

Yup, I'll be there for the 1st time. Looking forward to it after hearing everyone talk about how great it is for the last couple of years.
