Re: German Navy Set

None of you has the faintest clue...COOPER'S BBQ in LLANO, TEXAS!!!!!!!
Superb, if I do say so myself. The best.

And thanks to Capitolron for bringing up the fact that yankees know nothing of BBQ. It is sad to think what you poor folks in the frozen north are missing out on.

do they deserve the tasty goodness of BBQ and fried chicken though. They try to remake it, but they get rid of the Styrofoam and long cooking times, while adding metal forks and $20s to the bill. Oh and they replace paper napkins with linens.

Re: German Navy Set

A Yankee town and BBQ in the same sentance - you have got to be kidding me :p

I lived in Texas for several years, and had tons of great barbeque, but never any as good as Carsons or Brooks. Oh, and just for the record, many of the most famous Barbeque places from the South, like Virgil's, open restaurants in NYC, so it is not difficult to get good Barbeque here.

A BBQ restaurant:eek:

I will admit Louis is right here - I have been to Virgil's and it is very good BBQ, a southern restaurant transplanted in NYC - still very good southern style ! ;)

As for the rest of his Yankee reccomendations - well us southerners know what to think about that

One of the best BBQ - with Mustard Sauce is KINGS BBQ in Eustis, Florida - outstanding! But, we could go all day on each regions BBQ in the south - because its all soooooooo goooood :D

Let me bring this back to thread a little - The German Navy would like Southern BBQ !!

Re: German Navy Set

Amen!

The best southern vegetable in the south is colards cooked with hamhock. BTW we just stoped at barbecue on our way back from church and I had chiken(IT was fabulous!) At our wargaming club Danny Daniel always brings sonnys

P.S- The history channel said texan barbecue is really good

Good Call on the new thread - Brad

We start talking BBQ and there is no stopping !! ;)

Re: German Navy Set

I'm not sure if Andy's barbecue would be a good thing. Andy, do you cook?

Re: German Navy Set

The Texans Barbeque in Algonquin Illinois, outstanding ribs, puts Carsons to shame, no contest. Now Carson's porkchops are excellent.

Re: German Navy Set

The best ribs I ever had were at a place called Carson's Ribs in Chicago (they also had killer cole slaw and barbequed pork chops). The best overall pit barbeque I've ever had was at a place outside of Cooperstown called Brook's Barbeque.

Louis--did you ever eat a Wyley"s For Rib in NYC? It was near the UN Building if I remember correctly. Great ribs, super atmosphere.

RELee--Sonny's is OK when you need a quick BBQ fix, but any roadside stand in the South will have better Q (except in South Carolina where they make that mustard crap for sauce:D:D).
Steve

I agree that sonnys is not the best barbecue ever. When I said this I was not talking about roadside barbecue and homemade barbecue. Maybe sonnys isen't that great but the one I go to in gainsville is the original and incredible!

Never been to Wyley's, but I will look it up and give it a try. You can never have too many good barbeque places. As far as roadside stands are concerned, I totally agree. I have had some awesome pulled pork sandwiches at little roadside places in Texas.

There's a great independent BBQ joint in Claremore Oklahoma. Think its called "Pig Out" or something like that.
:)

I Keep telling ya'll to eat at COOPER's BBQ in Llano Texas--it is superb!!!!

Hey, guess what I've just spotted from the window of our apartment. Its difficult to make out cos of the haze, but that's a Jack-Up Oil Rig just to the left of the island in the upper centre of the attached photo. Wonder if they're looking for an Engineer/Would-Be Comedian? :D:D
