church (2 Viewers)

I've said it before and I'll say it again; show me buildings better than these........you can't because they don't exist, specifically the Church/priory combination set, just spectacular, the two French buildings that came with D-Day set #1 are superb as well.......and I can say this without worrying about any fallout from my comments now can't I?

I have a few of these playsets but, until today never knew who made them for Conte. Have to agree that the church is the stand out building that went for sale in the hobby to date.

Well, I take exception to that statement!
Err....no actually, I don't think I can. Got my agreement. Church / Priory combo and especially the larger of the 2 set 1 buildings, and the smaller one....and the bridge....and, and..... :wink2:

LOL.............while we're on the subject, the farmhouse/haystacks/wall/barn combination is superb as well as the barn with the removable roof and the hedges on either side, as are the hedges, genius idea to sculpt them as to make the sided and center sections removable so you could place figures inside of them...........

.....and the pillboxes / MG bunkers and lets not forget the 2 NW Frontier buildings and accompanying terrain pieces......

Certainly one of the best structures out there, well done Ken, Cheers, Robin.

its a railway bridge Simon, should still be around somewhere, perhaps google it, I have had it for 6 years.
Cheers, Robin

Nice set up mate.

Robin, where's the bridge from? Is it a model railway bridge? Looks good.

Cheers

Thanks Robin.
I'll keep an eye out for something this side of the water (I think shipping might kill it dead if coming from anywhere else! {sm2})

Ken,

Was there ever any plans for the 'missing' rear quarter of the church? I know you rebuilt one for the MTSC showroom and added the rear and roof, but it just seemed a strange ommision.
Now I'm thinking along those lines, I think I'll have to craft out a a tereain and damaged wall section in pink / blue foam to plug the space.

Cheers
Simon

Richard was so busy developing new products from several periods that there were never any plans to add to the church set. It seems like many of the molded foam components to these Conte playsets have become 'standards' for many WWII collections. I am always happy to see how collectors use these with their figures, tanks and other scenic items.
The one I built for MTSC was doubled in size and included far more interior details, but I never got around to taking any good photographs of it.

Thanks for all of the kind comments!
Ken

Thanks Ken. I'll get hacking away at a foam block when I get 5 minutes and try and plug the gap. Don't think I'll try doubling it though. I've got enough problems trying to blend it in to the background as it is. If it gets any larger, I think I'll be ejected out of the house and in to the church.

Here I was looking wistfully at the church and priory on this thread , thinking I had a snowballs chance in hell of ever acquiring it, when up pop's rev pete with his announcment that tf had one for sale. Looking forward to its arrival. The photo's look great ,looks like a fantastic centrepiece ^&grin ...

Well done you, I saw it too, had pangs for a second one I like it that much, but you must have jumped quickly to get it. Came to my senses anyway, realizing I had no possible use for 2 and also I would be stopping someone else from enjoying this great piece. The priory was offered also, but was missing the front yard section, still would have been a great pickup. Feel lucky to have picked up the ruined farm house which I never thought I would have. This should go nicely across from the church being a similar colour and construction. Looking forward to setting up a new diorama. For me the church/priory were the pieces I lusted over for 2 years, perhaps more than any other in my 1/30 collection, so it feels good to have them and no longer on the endless hunt. Hope you also can do some photo's for everyone to enjoy. Cheers, Robin.

My priory is on its way !

Wooooohoooo !

That is 4 of the sets I have now :) My Normandy Village takes a step closer to completion.

I am excited for you, I saw one on Ebay couple days, a painted one, guessing this is the one you are waiting for. What a great piece, one of the best, expect photo's from you. Check out my diorama thread TIME ON MY HANDS AT LAST. Cheers, Robin.
