In March, 1998 three European Heraldry Tents and a Chinese Imperial Tent were produced in 3-D polystone.

The Heraldry tents and the Chinese Imperial Tent are all the same polystone tent casting painted with national heraldric symbols in different national colors. The crimson and yellow Scottish Tent, designated HKB19 retailed for $153. The red and white English Tent, designated HKB20 retailed for $153. The blue and white French tent, designated HKB21 retailed for $153. The Chinese Imperial Tent, designated IC003, retailed for $217.

There was also a special production German Heraldry Tent sold in limited numbers.

When they were released, I purchased a complete set of three regular production Euuropean Heraldry Tents, but stored them away until 2007, when K&C released the Crusaders series, and I bought the original Saracen Castle Diorama which launched the series at that years OTSN. Unfortunately, when I opened the box marked "English Tent", to my chagrin I found a second Scottish Heraldry Tent. By this late date, it was unlikely I would find one of the original English tents, so I just chalked it up to the vageries of early K&C packaging, and displayed two Scottish Tents alongside the French one. Just this afternoon I traded the second Scottish Tent for an English Tent with good friend and great collector Larry Lo.

I sent Brad 2 photos of the three European Heraldry Tents to post on this thread. Perhaps Larry Lo, who has the Original Chinese Heraldry Tent, will post a photo of it on this thread as well.:)

Louis, glad you got the correct one!

I can actually claim some credit on the Chinese tent, I found that one for Larry!

I must say I like these older tents better than the more recent releases. Usually I prefer the new over the old but in this case I'll make an exception. The graphics really stand out, I especially like the French tent. As always thanks to our resident toy soldier historians for sharing their collections, its always interesting to see those obscure pieces from the past. Its nice to see where we've been in this hobby to compare to where we might be going. It also allows us to appreciate how far sculpting, painting, choice, etc has come in only a very short time. The future looks bright.

Please note the Siena figures next to the tents. This is information that I believe is in Louis' book on glossy that he gave me before the book came out:

In 1996, finally, two sets of odd figures were added that set the high water mark for K&C’s glossy production, the four medieval Standard Bearers from the Palio Races in Sienna (produced upon a commission from Toy Soldier Magazine) and “Les Miserables”, the figures from the poster for the musical (produced upon a commission from the producers of the musical for the Hong Kong stage, and available only in Hong Kong). The four Palio Standard Bearers are each individually sculpted in separate positions, wear four historically correct heraldic costumes and carry four different heraldic banners. The sculpting is good, but not exceptional by today’s K&C standards, but the glossy paint jobs are the equal of any of the present exceptional matt production.

Brad,

Thanks for the concise background information on K&C's standard bearers of the Palio Races at Siena.

I have never seen the “Les Miserables” figures.

Brad,

Thanks very much for posting the "Les Miserables" set.

This must be close to the Holy Grail of K&C.

Raymond,

Louis' is the only set I've seen and I believe that he did not even know what it looked like until he purchased it.

Other sets that are very hard to find are the Free French (in gloss) and WS 04 Commanders Set (in matte, less than 10 made).

Brad,

Yet still not as impossible to find as CC, SP, EP......

I am learning to be cryptic with the retired and rare sets.:D:p
