Classic Sci-Fi on TCM tonight (2 Viewers)

A really great spoof on the old sci fi movies is a film called "The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra." It has the bad dialogue, stereotyped characters, bad special effects and so forth. Hilarious. It came out in 2004.

TRIVIA---in STAR TREK VI: THE UNDISCOVERED COUNTRY, Jack Palance had to drop out of the Chancellor Gorkon role due to a schedule conflict (or he wanted too much money or he was hesitant about the role) to appear in CITY SLICKERS, for which he won an Academy Award as Curly Washburn.

I re-watched "Them!" last night and it holds up pretty well. Quite a cast with James Arness, James Whitmore, and Fess Parker. Leonard Nimoy and Dick York also make short appearances. Whitmore's character made me laugh. He starts out as a New Mexico police officer, then joins some type of mini-task force that has him firing a bazooka for the military, traveling to DC to meet with the chiefs of staff, and assisting the FBI to interview witnesses. He is ubiquitous in the war against the giant ants while hardly saying anything. Great title. If they had called it something like "Invasion of the Giant Ants" it would have been less memorable.

You just can't leave sugar laying around...it attracts ants of all types. -- Al

"Make me a sergeant in charge of the booze!!"

This movie is an all timer for me, terrified me as a kid and as you stated, it's held up well over the years.

Great job with the ants in the movie considering when it was made; it would get horrible CGI treatment if it was made today.

Five million years to earth is one of my favorites, saw it one night as a kid after "Anzio" on some cheeseball local TV station...………...could hardly sleep that night and it had nothing to do with "Anzio"...………..

TRIVIA---the original RODAN was the first acting job for George Takei (STAR TREK), who did voice-overs for the US version of the movie. Takei said, "My father noticed an ad in a local paper for voice actors while I was back in L.A. during summer break from the University of California at Berkeley. I auditioned and got the job." Takei, legendary voice actor Paul Frees, Keye Luke and a woman each did the voices of 8-9 different characters in the US movie version.

TRIVIA---Sigourney Weaver beat out Meryl Streep for the role of Ellen Ripley in the original 1979 movie. Producer Gordon Carroll said, "We had a casting girl working for us named Mary Goldberg—she told us that there were two women we should see in New York that she thought would be perfect [for Ripley]. One who had done some films, but had not broken through as yet, and the other was a young girl who had not made a movie as yet. The first woman was Meryl Streep. Meryl's long-time companion had just died, and I did not feel that she should be asked to come in from the country. It had just happened the day before ... we could see her another time. The other woman was, of course, Sigourney Weaver."

Prosthetic artists Alec Gillis and Tom Woodruff said the ALIEN 3 opening credits facehugger scene is Meryl Streep's face.

After retiring from acting, Grinnage became a maker of movie props. His most famous prop was in a Clint Eastwood movie, "If you saw IN THE LINE OF FIRE with Clint Eastwood and remember the rabbit's foot with the bullets in it, well I made that!"
