I was watching Cliff Robertson in "PT 109" just last night on the Military Channel and I open the paper this morning to see that Mr. Robertson passed away Saturday at age 88. RIP. -- Al

Thats sad, I remember seeing lots of his movies when I was a wee chap, didn't he also appear as Spidermans dad in the original flick recently?

I shall remember Cliff Robertson for his role as Lt. (jg) John F. Kennedy in "PT 109".

The movie was released in 1963, a few months before the JFK assasination in November that year.

I watched the movie not too long after in 1964, among one of my first war movies.

He also starred in Midway, Battle of the Coral Sea and 633 Squadron.

Raymond.

Correct, he played Peter Parker's uncle, actually, Ben Parker, in all 3 movies. He was very versatile, and I enjoyed him in every role he played. He even played a villain on the "Batman" TV series in the 60s, the cowboy Shame (so of course, at the end of the episode, Batman would express his disappointment at a man choosing a life of crime by saying, "Shame on you, Shame!").

I remember him also from "Charly", "Three Days of the Condor" and "The Devil's Brigade".

That PT-109 business always struck me as a bit odd. I'm no sailor but isn't it difficult to run over a small PT boat in the Pacific Ocean? Aren't they desinged to be small and mobile? Shouldn't someone on board have been paying attention? The whole thing appeared to be spun to promote JFK's political career as a war hero and he made the most of it. Anyone else would likely have been court martialed.

No one mentioned his role in the Devil's Brigade, about the US-Canadian 1st Special Service Force. Good movie for its time. Chris

My favorites are Too Late the Hero, also starring Michael Caine, and The Naked and the Dead.

"Too Late The Hero" is a classic WW2 flick and still one of my favourites for its time.

Cheers.
