Well, well it's almost that time again. Anyone complaining about civility on this board should check out the college football forums where anything goes! The pundits are going with Oklahoma and Alabama as the top teams. Notre Dame is back in the top 20 mix after a long drought. Ohio St., North Carolina and Miami are in deep NCAA doo doo. Soon every team will be under investigation. Florida St. is a sleeper. With Florida and Miami in trouble and Bowden in an old folks home, they are going to benefit big time. Oregon (hereafter known as team Nike) and LSU is the first huge game. But not time just yet for my el predicto.

I predict a national title for the Terps of UMd. I believe that the opponents of UMd will be laughing too hard at the Terps new circus uniforms to put up a decent game. UMd goes undefeated. I said it first.{sm3} -- Al

It'll never happen...but at least let me dream :)

Peter-
No love for your Golden Gophers? My SC Trojans get them in the first game this year. I haven't heard much about MN except they have a new coach after that disastrous season last year. My el predicto is USC 37 MN 14.

MY Golden Gophers????

I grew up in Iowa...so I'm a Hawkeye.

I went to Northwestern, making the 'Cats #1 in my book.

My son keeps trying to make me into a Gopher...but it ain't gonna happen!

I haven't heard that much buzz about the Gophers this year. I don't expect a lot out of them, but I suspect they will be improving now that they have a competant coach. They'll have a lot to prove in their first game...but I don't see them being a match for USC. Might be closer than you think...but I don't see Goldy pulling it off.

Who chooses a GOPHER as a mascot anyway?? What's it going to do, nibble on my leg??? Scary!

Actually, if a Golden Gopher and a Terrapin got into a tussle...it'd be pretty fearsome!

The season finally starts tonight. A few duds the first weekend, but also a couple of huge games. Time for el predicto:

Oregon 40 LSU 21. The big game. The winner is on the yellow brick road to the championship and the loser is kaput. LSU is in disarray with several players suspended. Team Nike has too many weapons. Close until the half then the Ducks wear them out. LSU can't score enough points to keep it close.

Georgia 28 Boise St. 24. Upset pick. Georgia at home knocks off the #5 team that has overachieved for several years now. Besides I hate that blue field.

South Florida 31 Notre Dame 27. The Irish dreams are crushed right off the bat with a tough loss. If they win this one though, a soft schedule has them with a top 20 finish.

USC 37 Minnesota 17. The Trojans should win easily at home against a rebuilding team.

Ok. Oregon and Georgia have hideous uniforms. Doesn't anyone look in a mirror before hitting the field? Can't wait to see the circus uniforms for the UMd in full bloom.:rolleyes2: -- Al

Unfortunately, they both played just as bad as they looked. The Oregon players looked like a radioactive praying mantis from a low budget sci-fi film. They are also major chokers. Boise St. is amazing. They seem to win these games every year. My once mighty Trojans open with a crushing two point win over the Golden Gophers!

Those Georgia uniforms are just God awful.

And Notre Dame looked brutal yesterday, that new coach is going to have a stroke before the season is over.

Boise St; who else is on their schedule by the way? One of the analysts on ESPN yesterday said they should be favored in the rest of their games.

Wonderful; so all the major powers will knock each other off and Boise St will just lay in the weeds by scheduling a bunch of cupcakes.

What a great system they've got in college football.

He reminded me of Chris Farley on Saturday Night Live.

Could you imagine the skit SNL could have come up with having Farley as Kelly, what a sin he passed away so young..............

Never heard of so large a number of games being delayed and/or terminated early because of weather. -- Al

So if you call a game early, what does that do to your team stats? It sounds like it could get pretty goofed up.

Defensive stats looks a lot better if you only have to play for 3 quarters!

If I understood correctly, it was the first time in over 100 years that ND suspended a game and they did it twice. Recent accident in Indiana must have spooked the authorities. And it looked like a major storm, so probably a good decision although I like to see games in the rain.

OMG AL, what's that all over the Terps helmets and shoulder pads? {eek3} O'brien looking good, nice opening drive. Go Terps! Chris

Hi Chris. LOL! I see nothing, I know nothing. I'll bet the colors reverse at halftime.{sm3} Team UMd does look good, so far. -- Al

Dumb decision #1 of the season. O'Brien could have walked that in and should have. -- Al
