Loved this show as a kid, still do today, we've got a local cable station here in Massachusetts that plays Combat episodes M through F at midnight.

There were rumors several years ago a movie was to be made with Bruce Willis playing Saunders, the project never got off the ground.

There was also going to be a movie based on the comic book character Sgt Rock with Arnold himself playing the lead, but again, this on never got off the ground either.

There was a guy at the Chicago show several years ago selling a set of Combat character figures that he sculpted and had run a limited amount of, they were expensive, but I had to have them, so I grabbed a set...........

The 2-part railway episode is titled "What Are The Bugles Blowin' For?". It is an excellent 2-parter. Also has a neat blooper in it. Near the end of the show, if you watch carefully, you can see modern California highway traffic going by on the freeway in the background. It's a brief glimpse, but it's there.^&grin -- Al

It's been a few years since I've seen this episode, I'll have dig out the DVD tomorrow (suppose to rain anyway:rolleyes2:) and pay attention to freeway traffic. :smile2:

This pic is wiki, Sal Mineo and Vic Morrow form 1965. Okay Al, without looking it up - name that episode! ^&grin

That is part of the reason I finally picked up the series. They use to run episodes of Combat all the time here but it all came to an end 2-3 years ago when the TV station (forget which station it was) stopped playing them. I'm really glad I picked all the seasons up. I really don't have to watch it from front to back because I have seen them all before. I like the fact that I can go to the dvds and select my favorite episodes to watch. When I bought the the dvds I also discovered that Donruss made cards for the tv series as well. I would sure like to pick these up but they are awful pricey.

You got me on this one. Mineo was in 3 different episodes and I can picture it but not the title. There are only a few episodes I can name by title without having to look them up. I think it is the episode where Mineo comes back to rescue Morrow, who is injured. I will have to look it up.:redface2: -- Al
P.S. - I looked it up. 'The Hard Way Back', episode 6 of season 3.

It would be cool if they made a COMBAT! movie. Although, given Hollywoods record on making classic T.V. series into movies. The movies almost always are not anything like the T.V. series we all know and love.
Also, anyway you could post pics of the COMBAT! character figures you picked up at Chicago?

Posting pictures is the easy part; finding them will be the tough part, will do my best.

Speaking of character figures, pretty sure Marx made a set for "Those Gallant men" did they not?

Cool! Hope you are able to find them.
MARX made 5 Gallant Men character figures. Nice detail, but not a lot of action in the poses.

Wow, I feel bad that I'm the only one who don't enjoy Combat like I did when I was a kid. I have a Combat DVD that I'll watch and reevaluate my opinion.

Good memory, Bob. The episode with Lee Marvin was called "Bridge at Chalons" and was #34 in the series, 2nd season. The other show you remember is called "Doughboy" and starred Eddie Albert as the doughboy. It was #35 in the series, 2nd season. Both Marvin and Albert were actual WW2 vets. Both were excellent episodes, IMO. :smile2: -- Al

I do not know how many members were reading the Sgt. Rock/ Army At War {sm0}Comics at the time, but it seems many of the scripts/ issues stole their ideas from each other. The Doughboy story and other scripts were lifted straight from the comics. That is my story and I am sticking to it..{sm3} Michael

Funny about the various stats about Combat, believe them all. I remember so well after seeing just a few episodes, I learnt very quickly, that any guest star or extra from the regulars that came into the squad was usually doomed to be one of the casualties, usually death. On reflection it must have been fairly easy to make, as most times it involved the squad walking thru the country side and coming under fire. There were not to many prop's involved, lucky to see a vehicle or tank, mostly fighting in and out of buildings. Thought it was great in those days as I had nothing to compare it with. Cheers, Robin.

Yeah, the guests or unidentified squad members were usually doomed.{sm2} Someone on the Combat website did a count and came up with the figure that 2nd Platoon, Co.K, had 118 men KIA during the course of the 5 seasons.{eek3} That's a pretty high attrition rate, but, then again, they did lead the way across Europe. -- Al

Hi All,

One of the best tv shows. On reflection, the countryside and foliage that they were walking around in never looked European to me. I remember a Ketterenkad in one of the episodes. Great looking thing.

Don't feel bad mate, I doubt that any of us enjoy early TV shows as much as we did when we were kids, those were the days, and we won't see them again as we did then {sm2}

There are many shows I loved as a kid that I now find unwatchable, the fabled MASH being foremost amongst them. I have found, however, that Combat! and the early Gunsmoke episodes have held up very well and can still compete with TV shows that are on today. Some of the Combat! episodes rate as high (with me, anyway) as anything I've ever watched on the tube. For the most part, our memories of the old shows are the best part of those shows. :wink2: -- Al

One of the best parts about the Forum, is the reliving of memories with fellow Forum members. The old TV shows, movies, playing with soldiers in the backyard, etc. Whether you grew up in the USA, Europe, OZ or anywhere else in the world, we all seem to have similar experiences. Now that's cool!

I finally broke down and bought all 5 seasons of Combat! I've been meaning to do this for some time but just never pulled the trigger until now. All I can say is that I'm glad that I did. My father and I use to watch this show all the time so its brought back some good memories. I'm really enjoying this series alot. Anyone else have a tv series or war movie that just seems to mean more or have a sentimental value to it?

This was my favorite TV show as as kid as well....Does anyone remember collecting Combat bubble gum cards?? I had quite the collection along with my baseball cards
