Commonwealth Troops Don't Sell? (1 Viewer)

I would buy! I would also reply to a poll with the answer....

YES. I would buy commonwealth troops in NW Europe. :D

So just to confirm-

I would like to see more Tommies and a Firefly.

Thanks for listening.

I think they do just well. Thats my favorite side of the whole KC is the Brits.

Stalin fielded 2 Polish armies, the 2nd of which was heavy with all the latest gear. T-34/85's, JS-2's, SU-85's, ISU-122's.

I'm not sure if "free" is the word that comes to mind when Soviet eastern European allies are discussed. I wonder if the Poles would have been so keen had they known the Soviets would dominate them for 45 years.

Well, 'free' is a relative term. How free are you or I? We have been dominated by Bushes & Clintons for 20 years

A big YES from me on anything Commonwealth !
I am pretty sure the officer in EA009 is based on a well known (at least Down Under) photo of an Aussie LT at Tobruk so for those looking for Aussies that set will do for now.

I'd love to see more Brit and commonwealth troops.D Day,Italy,Germany theres scope for a lot more.Suddenly the focus of peoples requests seems to be moving away from the German stuff (not totally of course)and towards more allied releases.Still i don't mind Allied or German, for me its still a golden age of choice for us collectors.:)

I wanted to add to this that the recent FOB Brits I bought are spectacular & even if not interested, it wouldn't be a bad idea for any collector to own just one figure for showcasing

Hi panda1gen ! Thanks for the battles we did two weekends ago :)

The answer is obvious, nobody makes them ! They wont "sell" until somebody takes a risk and makes a few...

The germans had all the flash kit, its the same in re-enacting, only a few British re-enactors and loads of germans and yanks !

It took ages for Tamiya to re-release the 1/35th 25pdr, I was looking for a second hand kit for ages to go into a diorama for a Burma/Egypt RA veteran. He got his Quad and a jeep but he never did get the gun before he sadly passed away. Tamiya recently did a churchill tank and that seems to be going well. I would love a 1/35th QLR or K2 ambulance for a diorama.

These do however require some modelling skill and TIME, so thats no use to you mate !

See you again soon, drop those ersatz 250/1's off next time you visit your mum and i'll repaint them for you gladly. Any luck sourcing transfers for unit insignia for 9thSS and number plates etc ?

All the best, Simon

Simon

Thanks very much, been v busy and I don't think you could have got my email, I have been having some problems with the old computer. Some emails didn't go!

Brilliant weekend and I shall find an excuse to drop that kit off sometime. Let's start planning for May???????

good points about can't buy if not made BTW....................

Any suggestions anybody of where to find 1/30 ish size transfers, I fancied the 9SS div as it was in Normandy and Arnhem?

Another source for custom decals is the link below. The site is in german but pretty self explanitory.
I talked with the proprietor, Ernst, he speaks english and is willing to do custom sizing of any of his decals. I had him do a series of his in 1/30th.

I get the opinion that the toy soldier world is much like the real world situation in 1939 . . . the Nazis have all the goodies while the Brits have relatively few! Have always wondered why toy soldier collectiors opt for figures and models depicting the losers . . . Nazis, Napoleonics, and Confedrates. The first two had state of the art equipment and pretty uniforms that probably appeal to many, while the CSA remains an emotionally packed theme for many folks.

I don't know if this is relative but a lack of interest in British WWII toy soldiers goes all the way back to Britains Deetail Series. When my boy was a nipper we put together an army of Germans and Brits with various metal vehicles. I used a couple of toy shops in London and got real friendly with the proprieters but both shops were always running out of German troops and kubelwagens/PAK 38 field guns etc consequently, they were continually on back-order. Reason: they were selling three times as many as the British Tommy and the Paratrooper sets of which there was always an abundance available. Why? haven't a clue and at the time neither did the shop owners only that they did not sell as well as their counterparts which at the time appeared to us to be somewhat unpatriotic. I also remember when Britains brought out their metal German 88mm artillery piece you couldn't get one for love nor money and it was only my relationship with the shop owners that I was able to secure one for my lad. Even then German toy soldiers had a more definite appeal to the 1970's collector than the khaki clad Tommy.

Now before you all blitz me I know there is no comparison between K&C WWII figures/vehicles and plastic Britains that were merely kids toys of yesteryear, but by the prolific amount of posts on this thread it appears very much as if not much has changed in 30 odd years. The Brits are still not popular with collectors!

Can appreciate Kevin's frustration, but do the requests for more Commonwealth sets here on this thread correalate with the great number of unwashed toy soldier collectors out there in the ethos?
It appears not!
