I think that is a ok idea as long as I win first place. Simmo.:salute::

It can be fun, but as someone who's judged at shows, I recommend that we come up with some kind of criteria. For example, Mike's dios reflect a high level of scratchbuilding and painting, original work. Others reflect less original work and more reliance on buying ready-made display accessories and placing finished figures on them. Things like these are things to consider.

Prost!

As someone who has judged for many years I do implore you to forget it. The endless bickering, arguing and complaining will counterbalance any enjoyment by a factor of ten. Just post pictures of your work and enoy them for what they are. Trooper

Agree, no good can come of it, even with the best of intentions..........:( Michael

That works for me. I am not one to shrink from an argument but while there are obviously differences between the posted dios, they all are enjoyable to see and I would hate to see anything that would dissuade any of the folks who are kind enough to share their efforts from continuing to post them.

Having been a member of a military miniature society, I must say that I was turned of by the quest for medals by some members. But if we do have a competition, I suggest that there be several classes, including dioramas, individual figures, armor, artillery, et cetera.

Have to agree that it would not work. There are some superb dio's on here from a variety of era's created by people with varying skills and its better to let everyone just see them and appreciate them with kind words rather than whats better or, the best.

Only end in someone getting the hump over comments that would be not objective but subjective

Let sleeping dogs and all that springs to mind

Slicing, Splicing, and Painting Figures, Then Building Dioramas Is My Hobby.
The Activity Is Relaxing.
Competition Would Remove the Fun and Enjoyment.
No More Medals Are Necessary.

I think the idea is great however the reason why I htink it wouldn't work is not from a competetive angle. I think there would be little interest in general. There are hundreds of photos posted all over the forum each week. Frankly if it isn't posted in the K&C section most are interested. I can count on perhaps two hands those members that regularly comment on other members dios outside of the K&C section.

Shame really as there is a lot of neat stuff going on.

Personally I wouldn't participate. I have no desire to compete with my friends on the forum, especially where subjective judging is involved. When I share the various scenes I create my hope is to encourage others to do the same. I suspect this could have the opposite effect.

If there was a competition and UK Reb entered it, game over! :smile2:

Where are you my friend? ^&confuse

See thats why no competition. as one could equally say a host of other members dio's are much better than his. One just has to enjoy them all rather than have a competition. I also cannot see what it would serve. who would judge and what criteria are they choosen should they be dio builders as they know what is involved in the creation or, is it just down to their preference? As Jazzeum has just shown he thinks one persons wins without either debate critique or a competition. Thats why it would not work

Here's what I think! (as if you care one jot!)

I look at other people's work on here - and judge myself. I know I'm not as good as some - but can equally see merit in other people's work. The important thing is - we are all "having a go" at producing, talking about - or even just arranging - what we all seem to love. Toy Soldiers/Conoisseur figures/ Military models - call them what you like! The important thing for me is - we all seem INTERESTED.

So, in my humble opinion, with regard to prizes etc., - forget it. I don't need a medal (even a bronze - or a casting of one!!), to enjoy a fascinating hobby - and an even more fascinating insight into how others of like-minds view it. Thanks to everyone for all of your input into the greatest hobby. johnnybach{sm4}

Also, in this digital age, some members are aided by image editing software. While it can bee used to clean up a photo, it's sometimes used to excess in my opinion. There's a clear difference between seeing a dio at a show/home and seeing an edited version on the internet. My point is that judges may simply like one dio over another because one collector is a skilled photoshop user and the other is not.

Great point.

Ok stupid question so its a NO for the competition..................{sm4}

I think UK Reb or Rod (Debrito) would have to both be right up there as two of the best in my view. I can only aspire to be as good as those two gents^&cool
