I thought some of you might get a kick out of seeing a complete British battalion, circa 1815. A few years ago I got a good deal on a large lot of 2001 Britains hollowcasts...474 of them to be precise. The scale and detail of this particular line is not in keeping with with what I collect, but I thought they might look ok perched on a hill in the background of my Waterloo diorama if I converted them slightly (since the painting was inconsistent with any British livery) and did not appear to represent any particular regiment. So with minor modifications, I give you the 2nd Battalion of the 44th Regiment as it may have appeared at Waterloo. Total strength at Waterloo was 494; here we have 474 complete with sergeants and standard ensigns (not Britains). I figure once I cast the officers, we should be up to the total 494.
The Battalion is shown in column formation on the turn: 8 companies of 50+ each. On the far left the light company, on the far right the grenadier company, the six in the middle battalion companies.
The 2/44th was under the command of Lt-Col J.M. Hammerton, who was wounded at Waterloo, no doubt for having to drag the heavy base glued to the bottom of his shoes around with him everywhere he went.
Enjoy.
