Conte North West Frontier 1879 - 1900 Series (2 Viewers)

The weather over here is quite mild for the time of the year Joe, around 60, hopefully the snow stays away until after the London Show, I remember what happened last year:mad:

I will get my NWF troops organised for a photo shoot:D

Cheers mate

Martyn:)

Looking at the superb picture of the British officer with the colors, all I can say is that it is the embodiment of the phrase "The sun never sets on the British Empire." Outstanding pix. -- Al

Thanks once again Martyn an Al how true it was back then that the Sun Never Set on The British Empire. A little twist in history not sure if the Naval Brigade played a role along side of The Gordon Highlanders but couldn't pass on a little play time featuring the Gatling Gun Crew along sid of the Highlanders..........The Lt.

I think combining with the Marines is just fine Joe, I intend to make a square using both, if the Highlanders ever get released that is. Cheers, Robin.

The Naval Brigade fought shoulder to shoulder with the 92nd Highlanders (soon to become the Gordon Highlanders) at Majuba Hill, South Africa in the 1st Boer War

Hi Martyn and Lt,
I fully agree that for sake of fun we could consider matching up these specific Conte 92nd Highlanders and a Naval detachment gatling gun ( battle orders for the Natal Field Force, 24 January 1881, list 2 gatling guns), but the infantry rifle tell off a difference of 17 years between the battle of Majuba Hill and the adoption of the Higlander´s weapon!
Although a correct statement that the 92nd was at Majuba Hill in 1881, they would be firing Martin - Henry´s, and not the Lee - Metford´s ( First used in the Sudan Campaign of 1898). Pay close attention to some of the previous pictures and you will spot the singular maganize and bolt/bolt head on the rifles.
Having said that, given that in this specific picture the soldiers are with there backs to the camera.........this detail is not visible:) And what really matters is the fun to see such a great scene plus the overall scenario.......Very nice indeed....congrats!:salute::

Thanks ArtilleryCrazy for your comments. I knew the rifles of the Highlanders were from a later date but knew I could get away with it by having them face the way ther where in the photos. By the way for those of you missed out on the 1st shipment of the series an are awaiting the arrival of the additional sets that didn't make the first shipment they're due later this month NLT early Dec. A little playtime in black an white..........The Lt.
