Is anyone on this site into converting plastic figures? I just started about a year or two ago and find it to be alot of fun and gives you a bunch of new poses and you can make figures that are not in production with a little bit of work. I don,t know a whole lot about it but each figure gets a little better and i,m not the greatest painter but each paint job gets a little better also, here are a couple of pictures of my plastic conversion. The highlander is made from a marx viking with new arms and head and the gear is made of 2 part putty and also cut from other figures. the vikings head went on to become a french sapper.

Does anybody know how to post pictures? I tried but i messed something up, i think the picture my have been to big? Please help!

Hi you must make sure your pictures meet the size limits allowed. Use the manage attachments below under additional options. It allows you to go to the file on your computer you wish to download from. This will tell you if your image needs to be reduced in size. If it does use a program to reduce your picture then down load it.

This is the back of the figure you can see the add-on stuff made of 2part putty. The back pack was cut off another figure.

Very well done. I like to paint WWII plastics and metal.

You look like you have time to "play", even with kids. Playing is a great relief valve on the pressures of life. Your men look great. By the way, I have only six more Del Prado cavalry to get to complete my companies. I will not be bidding on any more after that, too many K&C infantry to get. Plus, the cavalry seem to becoming more and more sparse on eBay lately. Michael:)

Thanks guys!!! Hey sceic when are you going to post some pics, i,d love to see your collection. Are you doing a dioroma with the cavalry?

Fishhead, Yes, Your conversions look great. I do the same with Conte ACW and mostly a lot of head swapping/parts switching for my Napoleonics.
Lots of fun.I must have carved up 200 Conte ACW.
Okay, Now I'm going to try this attatchement dealybob.
Keep on carving!

WOW!!! Great job looks like someone else has some time kill:D .I,ve got alot more conversions and painted figures also.At some point i,m going to finish painting them and do a dioroma. I,ve done some of the conte cival war and tsd cival war also i,ve got quite a few painted and a bunch converted and started to paint them. They are about the best plastic figures out right now in my opion. The conte and tsd are great to mix and match in conversions. I also started painting the new conte mexicans i just need to ad highlights and there done. I need to buy some more to convert also. I wish conte would do some napoleonics in plastic i would be in heaven. Does anybody else on the site convert? I love to check out other peoples work keep it coming, thanks for posting fubar and keep up the good work.

I enjoy painting and converting plastic guys also. Pics look good. I see Fubar sent a pic also. He is a master on doing figures. Your pic is good Fubar. I will have to try to do a pic like Nijja said. Hesitant to try it. Leadmen (John).

I paint plastics but I haven't tried conversions. I was wondering is it harder to convert if they are hard plastic instead of soft plastic like Conte.

Nice paint work!!! I,m no expert at converting (I,ve only been doing this just over a year or so) but yes it is harder to cut up the harder plastics. the old conte soft plastic is munch easier to cut, i,d be real careful when starting out. YOU WILL CUT YOURSELF!!!always cut away from yourself and be carefull cutting large areas like the waist, have some band aids ready. start out with some easy head swops, its not that hard and alot safer and just a couple of head swops can make figures look alot different. Then move onto arms ect. ect. its lots of fun. I use zap-a-gap for glue and to fill and make stuff for the figures i use tamiya 2-part putty, just knead it together and use like clay and when it hardens you can sand it, also i dig a hole in the neck and head and fill with 2 part putty it helps hold the head on better, some guys put a piece of brass rod ,but i haven,t had any problems. I wash the figures with dish soap first to get the mold release agent off the figures and when i,m done with the figure i prime them with mr surfacer 1000 by gunze sangyo. Its a primer filler,(helps fill in your work) i use the brushable as i live in an appartment and i don,t want my kids breathing in the sprayable stuff (it stinks). It seams to stick to the plastic O.K. they have paint now made to stick to plasic by krylon and i,ve tried an automotive problem plastic addhesive but it only comes in spray. What do you guys do to your plastic before painting?
