ALL,

Okay, so the moderator thought the previous discussion was too political. I on the other hand found it the most informative and fascinating discussion ever. The posts gave info and view from ALL OVER THE WORLD and during the discussion I did not see one inappropriate remark made by any of the members to one another. In fact, it has been the most civil discussion with great points debated about the virus, each owns experience in their state and yes criticism of our government. Or for that matter WORLD leadership.

Therefore, WadePAT I ask you to allow the conversation in this thread to continue as this conversation is so much needed not only in this difficult time, but needed as a platform to express our concerns, fears, anger and also laugh out loud at the virus "war stories". The previous thread was a great respite to communicate with fellow members and see the effects of this Pandemic through their eyes and not just our own. Please don't take what was written as being to political, take it as way to (as I once put it) slam the rug against the wall to get the dust out. We all need to bang that dusty rug out and here is place to do it with out getting anyone dirty and I guarantee if ANYONE got out of line we would ALL put them in check to preserve the civility of this forum. Remember the weird-o Russian guy from New Zealand? Yeah, no, he doesn't rate amongst this esteemed crowd of barristers, business leaders, retired military, barons, collectors, dealers, manufacturers and working joes...like me.

Here, here?

I’m not a moderator (although I used to be) so you can take whatever I say with as many grains of salt as you wish and you probably will and you can ignore what I’m about to say. This is a no politics forum but the thread had become very political and it was high time for it to be closed. I think we need to use self restraint in what we post. I belong to two music forums that have similar rules. In one forum the thread has been shut down a couple of times. We’ve skated close to the edge in the current one but we’re using self restraint. In the other forum, the members have gotten very political and as a result the moderators have had to constantly delete threads. They might be up to their 20th thread by now.

The reason that many forums have no politics rules is that politics is divisive and leads to bad feelings. There are rules for a reason.

I apologize for getting too political, too much free time can loosen inhibitions!
I wish everyone health and happiness.

Some of my best comedic work ever gets shut down in a locked down thread.

Generations from now, people will be talking about my work in that thread, it's what legends are made of.

So, NO POLITICS IN THIS NEW THREAD; COVID NEWS AND VIEWS ONLY.

Politics and religion, politics and relegion..........................

I'm glad this thread opened...
I like hearing about what's going on in America with the tv slant...

I thought the thread was fine, it was a polite discussion from all regions of geography. I even would argue that the political spectrum between all who posted is really not that far apart as the shutdown thread comment made it seem. It is good to have polite discussion and for 99.9999999% of that thread it was. If of the .00000001% that wasn't, I missed it. I am not one who offends easily, I think a variety of viewpoints are healthy.

Anyhow, back to the current pandemic, bombs away!

Brad, be a rulebreaker, live it up :):):):):):):):):)!!!!

Just kidding, you are probably right, we live in wild times that people take quite personally.

Be well

NY,

Nah man your fine, don't worry brother I liked reading your posts. I liked reading everyones posts. They are insightful, well though out and the debates on this thread make me think while I am driving around town on errands or pouring upteen bags of concrete. You gotta think or we get to insular and reading what everyone posts from around the world puts everything into prospective. I have brought up some of our discussions, concerns, "going-ons" and debates at the dinner table and it is enlightening to make the family "think" and have our own discussion. I certainly have never said at the dinner table "you know what this a-hole said on the toy soldier forum?" No, quite the opposite.

Anyway, apparently the spike in Texas last Saturday was from numbers that came from nursing homes, a meat packing facility and prisons. If you think about it they are all close quarter facilities with nursing homes housing the elderly with tons of health problems. Prisoners who zero social distancing and I am sure sub par medical treatment and the meat packing facilities? Well, immigrants from south of the border probably with no health care and who do the jobs average joes won't do. I mean I don't know but practically all of the workers in South Dakota were from South of the Border and it highlights the need to immigration reform.

I have said this before we need labour and there has got to be a pathway to citizenship or a working visa permission slip to allow labor to come into our country and work AND pay taxes. I read that Prince Charles is calling on the citizenry to pick fruit and vegetables...well, fat chance on getting the populous to drop their i phones to become a migrant worker. That is some hard work and my mom was a cotton picker and fruit picker until she was 18 here in Texas and traveled through out the country to pick corn and whatever else was paying. Oh, and she is American, but that was and is the life for still for lots of people.

If I see Prince Charles humping bags of fruit (for weeks on end) to be weighed or cutting is fingers while picking cotton, then maybe the citizenry will come "to arms" to support the effort. Until then, he is blow hearting and needs to get on the phone with some Latin American countries.

Yes TD, I missed it too. Honestly, I look to see what George is raving/ranting about and go from there. Then I look for you to bring up your points...then Louis for the legal opinion, NY Solider response to everything, then Mike Millers point of view and then on to see if the Australians and New Zealanders are going to chime in. The hopefully, we hear from our brother in Brazil. I rarely see ZB Lang post about the virus...I think, he thinks he going to get the virus just by clicking on the thread. I don't know, but those Bostoners have some weird ticks about them.

It’s just so hard to type from within this hamster ball!
Haha!!

Well, we are a cast of characters, we could probably all get parts in one of the 1950s or 1960s Pirate movies where they had everyone and their brother on the ships (I love those movies), anyhow, in all seriousness, what I love about this hobby and this board is the unique individual personalities that exist within. That is what makes this fun to me is the overall people, we all don't have to be alike to get along and lively discussion that is civil is what is sorely missing from our current society in the public eye.

Ya know though, I would like to think that the majority of the US is civil in its thoughts and discussion, it is only the 1% that is shown on television and in the press that is nuts.

Tom,

I learn a lot, and get a lot of valuable perspectives, from our discussions, not to mention a lot of good laughs when George chimes in (how he is not a stand up comedian instead of a toy soldier dealer escapes me!). I would love to think that the majority of people are as open minded and thoughtful as the members of this forum, but my experiences discussing these issues outside of the bounderies of this forum are seldom as satisfactory. There is something about the makeup of this forum, that lends itself to an openminded debate. It may have something to do with us all being history buffs and used to thoughtfully debating why a historical event occurred. I've always found that people in this hobby are almost invariably genuinely decent, good people. I feel privileged to count you, and the other members of this forum from around the world, as my friends. I hope everyone stays safe and healthy, and that this discussion, like most of our other discussions, remains friendly, but becomes academic.

Even though we all have different points of view at least we are free to express them and we do share one thing, the love of history and our hobby.

Wow, so my name never comes up then? Good to know...………...:wink2:

Well if I did give up the toy soldier business for stand up, I know one thing; the pay sure as **** would be a lot better...………..:wink2:

I really and truly hope everyone realizes 99% of what I write is dripping with sarcasm, specifically in the sports related threads, East Coast sarcasm on display fellas.

Comedy was, is and always will be my crutch, especially at times like this, I always try my best to see the humor in life as if I don't, I'll need to check into the local nut house.

I thought about stand up, but the problem is my material is mostly toy soldier related, so it plays to a small crowd and I think I'd bomb...……………….my girlfriend said I'm a combination of Sebastian Maniscalco and the Diceman………...hmmmm, not sure if that is a complement or not...…….^&confuse
