IMO the best statistic is not the number of new cases, it is the decline or lack there of number of deaths. Treatment has come a long way for the worst cases and most cases are mild or non-existent. To me that is the best news out right now.

One of the most disturbing aspects of the Covid era has been the role of social media in shutting down alternative views. I am talking here about respected and highly experienced medical people with frontline experience.

2 days ago I saw my first story (via CBS) about the fact the CDC were going to hold an emergency meeting next week. The topic apparently is the effect of the vaccines on school age kids due to increased rates of a heart problem amongst boys. The 2nd reference to this I saw was on Tucker Carlson show on Thursday. He made reference to the Israeli experience as they were one of the first countries to vaccinate children in big numbers. They got abnormally high rates of heart issues. Germany and Canada have also picked up same issue.

Tucker mentioned colleges in USA were heading towards making it mandatory for all kids to have the vaccine. This includes those who have already had the virus. However seems those same colleges are not insisting their staff have the vaccines. One of his guests was a Harvard educated retired Dr, of immunology, with two college aged kids. He and his daughter have had the vaccine which would suggest he is not anti vaccine. His son has had the virus and his opinion was that it was not necessary for him to have the vaccine as he had anti bodies. He said he would seek an exemption from him having to have the vaccine.

That exchange has now apparently been taken off YouTube. For those interested the story about it is currently on the Daily Mail web page. Fair to say Carlson is not happy.

Not sure about other countries but the Astra Zeneca vaccine here was withdrawn for those under 50 due to blood clot issues. That would be due to people sharing information about what happened to some who had taken the vaccine.

As I said my issue is with social media shutting down the right of a Dr talking about his own kids situation. How many Dr's expressing the same opinion would they shut down and we would never even know ?

This has been going on for the past year including shutting down pages where thousands of Dr's around the world were discussing their experiences with treatments.

I think it was Carlson or one of the two guests on his show who said the public has a right to know all the information available before they make decisions.

I agree.

IMO, the most disappointing/frustrating aspect of COVID has been all the misinformation/conspiracy theories that have and continue to be thrown out there, on and on and on it goes.

Here in MA, the age group that continues to get sick/become hospitalized/die is 50-74 year olds who have refused to get the vaccine, they are the ones who are in the most danger right now from COVID here in MA.

My cousin, who is 58 and refuses to get the vaccine now claims his family has a history of heart issues and the growing number of males who are reporting heart issues concerns him.........................I told him it's impacting males under the age of 30, but he still refuses to get the vaccine.

Which just proves my point.

Recently a fruitloop conspiracy theorist friend of my youngest sister told her "A former Pfizer scientist who helped develop the vaccine is on record claiming anyone who gets the vaccine will be dead within three years"................................Hmm, ok then...............this actually upset my sister.

I did some research and it turns out this "whistle blower" is a former Pfizer scientist who left the company and started his own competing firm.

NINE years ago; I told my sister "How could he have been in on developing the vaccine in 2020 if he left the company in 2011?".................

I mean come on; listen, here's the bottom line.............if you don't want to get the vaccine, then don't get it, it's your right, you are free to not get it, no one is forcing you to get it, so you don't have to be like my cousin or my sisters friend and point to things that validate your decision.

The rest of us get it; again, don't get the vaccine and best of luck to you if you don't.

A lot of good points brought up about misinformation, the vaccine , etc. End of day, most of the points imo are correct. One in particular that I paid a lot of attention to was the Pfizer vaccine for my 17 year old male. After a good bit of discussion with my cousin who is a Neuro MD, along with a cardiologist, we made a decision to allow him to get it. I didn't take it lightly b/c of some of the data. That said, we came to the conclusion the good outweighed the bad. I got the Moderna, so far so good and life is nearly normal for me. End of day, I think all of the information should be available for people to make up their own minds. I was fortunate in due to familial connections, I had that knowledge, was able to look at it and make a decision. As I have always said, people need to stop being sheep, think for themselves, make a decision and live with it.

I go everywhere maskless now, I have no issues, I don't care what others think about me, I am vaccinated and comfortable, life goes on. Hopefully that is the way of the World again soon.

What you did is what everyone should do, consult with their physicians and make a decision that is best for them, some people literally cannot get this vaccine due to health issues, so they under no circumstances should be forced or pressured into it, it's their life and more to the point, their call.

As far as what others think about you for not wearing a mask, I don't see a problem; you stepped up and got the vaccine and states are lifting mask mandates for those who are vaccinated, so no one should care about you not wearing one, you earned the right not to wear a mask, unlike my cousin who has not gotten the vaccine but parades around without his mask.

I give up.

I'm in Nashville this weekend and the place is flooded with people. Haven't seen anyone wearing a mask. A huge difference from PA.

Whatever happened to the Brazil variant that was going to kill even more people than the original virus?

The Gamma Variant hasn’t gone away. A few cases were reported in Greece on Friday and recently detected in California. However, vaccines are effective against it.

Can any legal guys come up with possible offences for those involved in the cover up ?

[h=1]Video reveals Daszak and WHO lied when claiming no bats in the Wuhan Lab[/h]By Thomas Lifson

The coverup of the probability that COVID 19 was deliberately created in the Wuhan Institute of Virology [WIV] has had profound consequences for the entire world, preventing early detection and countermeasures, as well as derailing informed research.
One key element of that coverup was the hiding of the fact that the Wuhan lab was working on bats, because the virus was a variant of an existing bat-borne virus. The cover story, that a wet market led to the dispersal of COVID 19, would have looked awfully weak had it been known that the WIV was creating new viruses from bats. Both the World Health Organization and Peter Daszak, who acted as an investigator for WHO, outright denied that the WIV had live bats in its research facility.

Interesting to travel in the aftermath of COVID. Every service industry is understaffed. Hotels have closed restaurants, have housekeeping on request only, rental car agencies are sharing workers. How much of this is an excuse to cut back on customer services and how much is the result of the stimulus money is unclear but it noticeable. And thank goodness for the TSA preapproval process. The security lines at the airports are unreal.

Wow, that's batty.

There are people like Tom Dubel who have to travel for business so they have no choice but for me it’s something I will try next year. I really want to go to France this year but I will wait.

There was an interesting story in The NY Times this weekend about traveling to Hawaii. Each island requires its own test so if you had a test in Oahu and then flew to Maui without getting a test, you either have to go into quarantine or fly back to Oahu and then get the test and fly back. This has happened to many people.

The contrast between the media version of life and reality is astounding. Nashville was literally overrun with people last weekend. There were tractors in the streets pulling loads of drunken bridesmaids partying in the trailers, crowds of tourists, restaurants and shops full of people. No one wearing a mask except some of the staff. I was on the 28th floor of a building in Nashville that overlooked other buildings with roof top pools. They were jammed with people like something out of spring break. The airport was packed at 6AM on Sunday.

On my travels, I have noticed the same, "folks are partying like its 1999", that is what happens when cooped up for a year! I am happy to see some of the normalcy, we no longer have a mask mandate in MD and being vaccinated, has all but taken that away for me from a mental perspective. It feels good to get out.

I am doing a trip to London next March with my son, so we are waiting to see the requirements as they change daily, I am hoping by then, it will be normal if vaccinated.

My girlfriend the mask mandate on planes/at the airport vaccinated or not will be in effect until September at the earliest, she thinks they are leaning more towards the Spring of 2022 before they are fully lifted.

She and her colleagues are of the opinion that proof of vaccination is going to be required at some point internationally, not sure about domestically as after all, it's Murica and "my rights" and all that.................

It may be pent up emotions but passengers, according to news reports, have been unruly in the last few months, assaulting airline crews and the like.

That's unfortunate, it's not the crews fault, people need to dial it down.

The airlines are their own worst enemy. They have the absolute worst customer service. Rude, incompetent, and understaffed. Customers are stressed out by the time they get on a plane. Then they are crammed into a metal tube rocketing through the sky for hours with all manner of humanity and screaming babies. These people are sold alcohol even when intoxicated. The results are predictable.
