A panzer officer stands by the clogged traffic, wondering about the best way to deploy his vehicle to attack, but grateful that his supplies have caught up with him first.................

meanwhile back at the roadblock a 30cal MG waits for the German grenadiers to get closer...................

the gunner has an itchy finger on the trigger............

The brass are worried however..................

although Patton has already set off his Army moving North along congested roads, aiming for Bastogne, the key road centre in the south of the Bulge.........

 

[panda1gen]

In Bastogne, armoured elements are arranged into combat groups - such as Team Cherry. Elements mainly of 10th Armoured Division are the armour support available to the 101st Parachute Division

The combat teams are sent out to delay the German advance as much as possible at key crossroads - almost certain destruction for the US armour................

The armour is set up around roadblocks on key axes of the likely German advance. They wait for the juggernaut to roll on.................

and eventually the juggernaut does arrive.....................and the shermans and m10s do cause casualties...............

But the US armour is overcome and brushed aside by the heavy concentration of superior German armour........

Grenadiers kept pace with the tanks..................

And the mobile flak to keep away the 'jabos'..................

Here a Grille - a 150mm gun on a 38t chassis - prepares to lay down supporting fire for the advance to Bastogne.............

A kettenkrafft - a half track motorbike contraption - returns with a message from the scouting force ahead..............the Americans are in sight.......................
