Crescent Stagecoach - A Refurbishment (1 Viewer)

Four wheels on my wagon (well, stage coach :rolleyes2:) and I'm still rolling along...........hehehe^&grin

Looking mighty fine JB.

Now there you go Jeff -

" and I'm still rolling along----Them Cherokees are after me - but I'm still here - flaming spears - still singe my ears ----- and I' singing a happy song!"

See Britfarmer - the song says it all!

Gotta have them thar braves chasing the Stage - " American Native Warriors" ( for short - Injuns!).

Don't know quite what the happy song is gonna be - but "Bread of Heaven" it ain't!!

Quite where the Victorian civvies fit in Scott - not quite sure. But John Wayne - sat atop the stage with a Winchester - WhoaaH! there bach - show me where to find one - and he's there! I would just love a "Duke" sat on top - with the wind blowing his hat around! - and taking pot-shots at the chasers.............

My favourite Western film of all time that - even beats "High Noon!"

Tell you what - those two horses were one of my better finds. Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee-Hah! jb

Andrea do the figure of John Wayne on top of the stagecoach Johnny. Trooper

Yup. These are the figs I was referring to earlier jb. :smile2:

Thanks both - I had a look at Andrea - but didn't find THOSE. I'll have another look.^&grin

It is a difficult job to search out these figures. I have been to the andreas miniatures site - and seen the "stagecoach" models - but can't get to a page on that site where I can order some!

Tried other stockists of andreas lines - but not everyone of them stocks these particular figures.

Found one stockist in America (Michegan TS) who has them at $28.99 - which seems a bit absurd - because I am an hour from the Spanish Border - and Andreas is based in Madrid!!!

Another supplier is Historex - who can apparently supplycastings of Driver and John Wayne figures at Just shy of £40

Anyone know some sensible suppliers who might stock these - and doesn't want an arm and a leg for them - or is this the going rate??? johnnybach

Anyway - figures aside - I am now at the stage where I am able to introduce the Stagecoach to my pair of horses - who began this little project. A bit more work to do yet on the wheels - but not much left to do - (with the project so far).

Just as a reminder - this picture is close to what I was after;

And this is another view - so far;

I might have another try at thin yellow coach-lining - but my first attempt was abandoned - as I couldn't get the lining thin enough with the best brush I had!

Your restoration job looks terrific! ^&cool^&cool You brought those horses and the stage coach back from the dead, and they will look amazing with those John Wayne/Stagecoach figures.:smile2:

Well thanks pardners! I just need to finish it off now - with some varnish on the wheels and some other bits - and then maybe find some figures for it, at some point. I must admit to enjoying the whole process enormosuly - considering that when I found those two rather scruffy horses a short while ago - I didn't know who made them - or what they were for. jb

Well pardners - now's about time I mosey on down to the old hitchin' rail and hang up mah brush. The old midnight Wells Fargo coach to Santa Fe is finished - and I think a goldurn shot of red-eye is called fer!

I have made up a small "foot" for the whole thing from a small piece of plywood (not fixed on) - as when I need to move it - I can carry it all conveniently - so will probably paint it up to be similar to the foot on the pair of horses. Note for Brad - I did try to put a shadow along the raised lines of the coach - in a wash of charcoal grey. It is there - but is very faint under the varnish glaze - as if to suggest a slight shadow - but y'all will need goldarn good eyesight to see it in these pics - though is easier to see in "life" if you know where to look. Nice little effect that - thanks for the suggestion Brad - a shot of red-eye on me - next time!

Pretty little thing now - don't you think? A nice little project that - and very pleasing to do. Hope y'all enjoyed it half as much as me. johnnybach:D

Nicely done, John! You've earned a snort. Go down to the saloon and tell the barkeep, "Gimme a shot o' Panther Pi$$, in a dirty glass!" :) (That was a line from a play we did once)

This reminds me that I should be at the bench, instead of blogging...

Prost!
Brad

Purely for medicinal purposes - you understand Milord.:smile2:

Shame my brushes ( or maybe my eyes) couldn't manage those thin yellow pinstripes - but at least it now looks better than it did before. Great fun to do - and I'm on the lookout now for some figures at a reasonable price to add to it at some point in the future. Would be nice to find some old Crescent ones to restore - and keep it all as original as possible (despite my modifications).

At least my two ponies now have a Stagecoach from the original manufacturer (Crescent) as made them - to pull along - so have a purpose again. I must admit - finding old hollowcast pieces - and putting them back together again - not always in the same style as they were originally conceived - is a very satisfying experience.

Anyway - that's another piece for my collection - so Back to you Baronial Bench bach, you blogging bounder!^&grin

Me too - I have something else afoot!:D johnnybach

Looks great jb :salute:::salute:::salute::

Thanks to you Martyn - for putting me on the track of the Crescent Stagecoach in the first place. Without that - I would still have just a couple of ponies with nothing to do. Glad you like it too. jb

Johnny B,

,http://toysoldiertoronto.com/online...rt&page=shop.browse&category_id=21&Itemid=226

the stagecoach (you need to assemble) easy.
comes complete 4 horses and I think four passengers-including a shooter- I may have "some" of these passengers that come with this set separate. pm me if interested.
but you need to assemble.

You did a fantastic resto on that- well done !! I am sure some purists are pulling out there hair but you brought it back to life- collecting broken toys is boring and not very attractive on the shelf. very nice!

Grant

Hi Grant - yes I have seen that Stagecoach kit before - and it is very nice one too. I think that I have sorted out some figures for my restored coach already - but thanks for the offer anyway. Problem with my coach is that the door doesn't open - so can't put passegers inside without chopping the top off. I'm pretty sure that if I were to do that - then some of the "purists" that you mention might be reaching for some six-shooters!!

I have a driver, guard and prone figure for the top of the coach already ordered. They aren't the Andrea figures though - as I feel that they are too realistic "model" figures intended for Andrea's own model Stagecoach. The ones I have coming are much more like the "toy" figures originally meant for the Crescent Toy Stagecoach - so will be much more in keeping with the original. (hope the Crescent collectors approve!). There also could be a size issue - as the Crescent model is really quite small. I have been advised that the John Wayne figure MIGHT look a bit on the large size for mine.

Hope that will keep the purists at bay - or else I could be on a "Wanted" poster in the Sheriff's office! I want my lead on display - not coming my way from a Colt '45!

However - many thanks for your support for the idea of putting together broken/incomplete toys and restoring them - and also thinking of me chum - much appreciated, johnnybach

It might take a while yet Martyn - as the figures I have been discussing don't actually exist just yet. I am in discussions with someone who has agreed to make up three figures (driver/guard/prone rifleman on top), by using other adapted figures with appropriate western heads/hats - six guns, rifles - and some of the usual Western gear, to look similar to old Britains/Crescent?Timpo type of figures. I will be seeing him in October in the UK and finalise a choice of bits and pieces for them, then.

We are also discussing a chasing War Party -(which could actually be from someone else) - and adapting some ACW figures to look like US Cavalry coming to the rescue too! So - should be some fun and games putting it all together - for me to be able to play with them all for Xmas!

So - watch out for them around then. johnnybach
