This seems like a good opportunity to break my silence and say that I agree whole-heartedly with George's sentiments here. I realize I am "pulling a Costanza" by showing up here after storming off a week or so ago, but I have too many friends here (that I've been missing) to stay away. We are witnessing an increased volume of this "forum rage" as of late for whatever reason, but it, to me is quite similar from a psychiatric stand-point to road rage in that the instigator feels inappropriately secure at the keyboard (or behind the wheel) to the point that all acceptable standards of manners, politeness and courtesy simply cease to exist. I apologize to any, including you Brad, I may have put off with my hot-headed exit from the forum last week, and have finally taken advantage of the ignore feature to allow me to better interact here with the many individuals I have come to call friends, while avoiding the inevitable unpleasant distractions from those whom I tend to take offence most often.

As for the CTSC episode in question, it was really no different than most of the brush ups on here. A couple of individuals who I consider both to be good people got off on some pretty regrettable dialogue and things escalated from there. I am hopeful they can some time mend fences and perhaps have done so already.

One point I think needs to be made, and which I attempted to make not so eloquently before, is the whole concept of self moderation. Really preferable (I'm sure you will agree Brad ) to having a third party do it for you/us. Please consider carefully before starting threads with clearly provocative titles, and think, what is the real value of this, and will it more than likely lead to fisticuffs. It does not take a rocket scientist or brain surgeon to grasp these concepts, although I personally know people in each of these occupations if it would be helpful (actually never mind....they are probalby some of the most mal-adjusted social beings I know :p).

I think most of us at the end of the day just really want to talk TS after all..........right?

Dave, good to have you back :) So where are these Alma Guards then?:D

That is where evolution is a useful theory.
Just like the human body was not designed to come to a complete stop after traveling 80 mph in a metal contraption so people tend to come off second best in vehicle accidents, we were not designed to communicate with others thousands of miles away. Not many people know this but we all have what is know as an "idiot" gene. Some of us are lucky in that it is recessive so we tend not to display it all the time however some of us have a double recessive gene so we display all the features of this gene quite frequently.

"When you say something stupid in a bar you usually regret it, especially if the person you say it to is a big construction worker type with tattoos. You certainly regret it when a broken bottle is stuck in your face,. So in true Pavlovian manner we tend to not say such things unless we are under the influence. We have learn't this simple truism "Behavior of the "idiot" nature results in extreme pain and suffering soon after such behavior is displayed. Conclusion do not exhibit such behavior at least not in public. So on a forum we can combine our innate ability to be an "idiot" with out any restraining functions that evolution has taught us. You know when early man first started playing lets pull the sleeping saber tooth tigers tail. Evolution taught us that was bad, as all the little Neanderthals who thought it was a cool game got eaten so that particular "idiot" gene died out quite rapidly. On the forum we have uncoupled evolution. This allows us to display our "idiot" gene without any of the usual negative feedback that nature provides free of charge. So on the forum we feel free to exhibit our finely developed "idiot" gene. Combine that with a bit if Dutch courage and you have a recipe for the sort of behavior we all know and love here on the forum.
I think you are on to something mate. That said, I am not sure that evolution is as efficient as all that or that its operation for humans is functioning as intended these days. Interestingly, many public displays of the idiot gene are actually rewarded. You only have to examine the exploits of elected officials and network programming for more than sufficient illustration. Moreover, it is an unfortunate truth that humans have woefully tampered with evolution of the species by protecting in many ways the less adaptive examples from the pains and perils of their idiotic displays; hence the well deserved phrase "idiot proofing".

To an extent, distance may indeed encourage the idiot gene display but it is certainly not the only relevant stimulus. As you suggest, it is simply a readily available means of providing the perception of immunity, much like other forms of relieving inhibitions. Honestly, I remain skeptical that the forum examples here or at CTSC are anything more than a reflection of the prevalence of that gene and its inappropriate display in society generally. Consider if you will one recent illustration.:D

Cheers Jeff,

They are standing right where they were the last time I talked to you with as yet unpainted metal bits and bases.

The site is back up and Nicolas has some new rules.

Oz,

Check on the 'Discussion Forum' page. K&C is top of the manufacturers list.

Simon

Simon, the K & C heading only appears if you sign onto the forum which few people do, consequently K & C is NOT listed when the CTSC forum is viewed by any Guest.

Oz,
When you go on as a guest they show you the latest posts first so if a post about KC is the latest it will be on top.
Mark

Whatever - but I noted that they still have the old rule that K & C is NOT listed on the main forum.

Hi Oz,

Didn't you once complain here that K&C was at the top of the manufacturer's list on this TF forum, while the rest of the manufacturers are alphabetical, and that this was unfair? Given this, I would think you'd be happy that K&C does not get special treatment on CTSC.

A large number of the TF regulars are posting there now, and they seem to be enjoying the forum immensely. I can also assure you K&C is well represented there (not too much, not too little), as you know yourself when you and I used to have some great discussions there together.

So yes we are back, stronger than ever, and I thank all members here for their concern.

Mark, have you actually tested your theory by posting something under K & C then deleting the relevant cookies etc then viewing the forum as a new guest?

Suffice to say over a period of several years I have NEVER seen K & C listed on the Discussion Forum section when I have checked that forum as a guest.

However I'm prepared to give your theory a try. At present on the CTSC forum under manufacturers I see: Britains, Conte, Collectors Showcase, First Legion. Then a Diorama section then Books and Movies.

Mark, please post something under their K & C section now and let me know then I will see if K & C magically appears on my screen.

I was told that K & C appears on the top here as a convenience for members and guests because it is by far the most popular manufacturer. I would prefer to see K & C listed alphabetically but I can see their reasoning despite not agreeing with it.

With the CTSC forum, there is still the issue that K & C does not appear on that forum when viewed by guests. I have spoken to other collectors in Australia about this oversight be it by accident or design. We came to the conclusion that it gives an anti K & C impression by CTSC forum owners rather than indicating an impartial treatment of manufacturers.

We ,who belong to CTSC might percieve your observation, as much ado about nothing...Have a great TF day..Michael

Thanks for the info Oz, this is the first I've heard of this issue. I'll ask Nic to look into it, it's probably a technical glitch of some sort. Running the forum isn't Nic's job, it's just something he does on the side, so he relies on members to point out glitches that may arise.

In the meantime, why not just log in, did you forget your password? I can ask Nic to look it up for you if you want. Many forums on the internet require people to log in before they can read posts so I don't think that's an unreasonable request.

Cheers,
Conrad

Michael, I know all about your perceptions, sad to see, but your failing not mine.

Can we bang this on the head guys. I have been out all day enjoying the beautiful weather then come back to this petty drivel. It really is quite tiresome.

Then I suggest you don't read it. Meanwhile there are some people that think this matter has some relevance.

Oz,
When I go on the sight I am signed in and the first page that comes up is the latest posts. When I click on discussion forum KC is right below club news, the first manufacturer listed. What is the difference where it is listed. When I collected Jenkins I didn't get mad because it wasn't at the top. There are good people on both forums that I enjoy reading their opinions and that includes you too but you got to let this go and talk about what we all enjoy.I hope KC comes out with a whole line of WWI Australians don't you. This is what we should be talking about.Best to you.

As a moderator it is my job to read all of the posts to ensure a peaceful forum. As a member your cooperation in this matter would be helpful. This is about being able to see a manufacture on another site so has no relevance here. I suggest you post those questions on the CTSC.

Speaking as a collector and not as a moderator, this has no relevance whatsoever.
