Which colour do you prefer, the original KC green jacket with red scarf spotted or the repainted one in tan with white scarf ? I find more realistic my repaint, and sorry for the bad quality of the photos.

Hi Poppo,

The Buffalo Springfield song "For What It Is Worth" springs to mind, whereby "nobody is right if everybody's wrong". Maybe that is why Stills/Young being Canadians, we have lots of strong opinions from there.

Anyway, here is a link of the official colors

http://www.replicaters.com/ww2arfrikakorp.html

Quote from the site "Our world war two (ww2, wwii) German Army Afrika Corp, Deutsches Afrikakorps DAK uniforms have been copied from original samples and we have, after a number of trial and errors, been able to copy the fabric color and weight exactly. Although the Afrika Corp (DAK) Deutsches Afrikakorps tropical uniform varied widely in colour, largely because of different manufacturers' batches, length of use etc, we decided to copy the regulation shades"

All said, your colors are the same as what I had painted during my model kit days, many years ago whereby there was no internet, and black and white pictures are what we have. In the end, it may be hard to differentiate what is authentic. More a case of preference since there are cases whereby the top is even lighter in shade. I think the desert war was fought with whatever supplies they can get hastily, plus perhaps, being coated with desert sand. In the end, it is preference and what looks good for you. Yes, it looks good as well.

Rgds,Chris

The nice thing about the desert campaign is that the sun ends up bleaching the colors quite a bit. That, coupled with differences in dye for different lots of uniforms, gives you quite a bit of variety. Tend to look at the more olive toned uniforms as newer and the tan colored uniforms as older (due to the sun fading them) myself.

Hi Guys, hi Poppo,

Re your question “Which DAK tank commander do I prefer?”

Actually, I prefer the K&C original which is why we painted it in that color scheme.

However as Chris says there are a multitude of DAK possible colors to choose from and once anyone has purchased the item they are free to select and repaint to their own personal taste and liking.

Now, how can we help you with your photography?

Best wishes,
Andy C.

Well done Poppo, and how about the wear and tear from the dust and the sand . The desert was the roughest theatre of operations for any army. I read somewhere in a book about DAK that a uniform ( especially the long trousers) only lasted for a maximum of 6 - 8 months .

I like the new version and one is able to easily see the differences in the pictures supplied. I also like the white neck chief as the polka dots are not something I like seeing on troops but, its something K&C do from berlin to DAK must be to add colour. Most neck wear like this in the desert was torn and shaped sheets etc so, was white and many tank crews has silk ones they had either tailor made or acquired in Europe.

The wear on uniforms is something I have also read about and tests on uniforms in 1943 showed that within one week they would be bleached with sun, wind, sand etc and, the sweat from soldiers.

Would be interesting to see DAK soldiers done in the P range to see what weather effects would be placed on them

Nice to see chris and Andy speaking from the same voice on this also.
