Diary of a tiger 1 (includes Final version) (1 Viewer)

Re: Diary of a Tiger I continued

While to some it may be sacrilege to do this to an original piece at the end of the day it yours to do with as you wish. I am sorry but I have never heard anything so ridiculous in all my life, as bringing the hobby into disrepute.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Carry-On Converting Mitch !!

Ditto. Always enjoy seeing what other people can do to modify, enhance or otherwise.

Re: Diary of a Tiger I continued

Thanks Guys...

Was quite surprised at the heated response but, will leave it at that as I already have been naughty once this week!!!!!!

I felt like a heretic last night and, my automatic response was to reply but, I held my tongue.

The Tiger is now grey and just about finished the detailing and will post some 'grey shots' later before the winterizing

Mitch,If you were placing photo etch screens on the exhaust, what method do you use to remove some poly-stone for a snug fit?....Do you use a dremel? Thank you Frank

Re: Diary of a Tiger I continued

To the member who e-mailed me over concerns that I was bringing the hobby into disrepute by converting this set. I would like you to post these concerns to the forum as a whole as I am one of a number doing such things and, do not believe it harms the hobby

Mitch

YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING......Mitch do your thing....Go for it baby....Love to see an artist at work.....K/C will need to hire you for product enhancement:D

Re: Diary of a Tiger I continued

Sounds like one of those guys that buys extra sets and then tries to make a killing reselling them! Once you pay for something, it is yours to do with what you wish.

There used to be the same dilema with formula 1 racing cars and tobacco advertising on the car. The models were sold without them and there was a debate that putting the tobacco decals would affect the resale value. It did for some collectors who wanted a pure model, but cars with the markings well applied usually sold faster and for more money.

Re: Diary of a Tiger I continued

Guys

Whatever I buy from K&C ( vehicles and figurines) as soon as it comes out of the box to be used in a diorama or a vignette, it is being repainted and sometimes converted to blend into the scenery(decor). I am now working on two Battle of the Bulge vignettes: every single K&C soldier and vehicle is being redone. I don't see this as a crime it is on the contrary creative and it makes your collection unique. I always use original photos taken by war photographers as a basis for my diorama or vignette so one has to convert and repaint from time to time to make the scene as close to reality as possible. You sometimes are forces to convert to make the diorama historically correct.
( By the way I will put photographs on the forum as soon as the BoB vignettes are finished)

Diary of a Tiger: The Grey days

Guys...

Here are the pics of the Tiger repaint which, has now gone grey. I have repainted it as requested as part of the 502 heavy tank battalion which, fought at Leningrad.

A primer and a couple of coats of grey hand painted as I prefer the effect on the armour you can get rather than use a airbrush. One coat of panzer blue filters and, its done. I have repainted the superstructure including all the tow ropes (painted in oily steel) which, gives a realistic look. Turret hatches were painted including handles and leather protector shields. The tracks were primed with Tank track primer and, coated with Mig Russian earth pigments.

As the next stage (which, is already been given one coat) is to winterize the vehicle I have done no weathering on the main tank the only weathering has been done to the wheels with a sepia wash to recreate some oil/grease escaping from the wheels.

I think thats about it apart from the last installment will be the final version with markings and, weathered with repainted tank crew from SS to Heer.

Re: Diary of a Tiger: The Grey days

Well done Mitch i want one.......................:D

Re: diary of a tiger 1 with pics!!

Frank...

For putting on exhaust covers when I do I have found that the dremmel is to fast and too powerfull. I use a Rota craft 7.2V with the twist grip as it has a really small speed and, a very small head. What I have done is to remove the polystone vents and, that leaves a small cavity which, can then be painted matt black I have found that some material similar to the foam that figures come in fills it enough to create the effect and, adds support to the etch or mesh (whatever one chooses to use) I have also and more commonly use plastic card painted black put inside the cavity and then adhere the etch on.

Hope this helps
Mitch
